Los Alamos National Laboratory XIT Post Baccalaureate Student in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The eXperience Information Technology (XIT) division is seeking energetic and customer-focusedPost baccalaureate students who are looking for a challenging paid internship. XIT division consists of Computing Systems Professionals, Computing Systems Technicians, Solution Architects, IT Managers, and students. The successful candidates will be provided with a mentor and assigned to a team based on their skills, interests, and needs of the organization. XIT division is organized with 4 groups and provides the following services:

● Unclassified Systems Services (XIT-USS)

● Classified System Services (XIT-CSS)

● Institutional Systems Services (XIT-ISS)

● Technical Systems Services (XIT-TSS)

Post-baccalaureate interns may remain in this category for up to two years.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements: (skills necessary to do the job)

The successful candidate should have experience in one or more of the following areas:

● System administrator (database or computer systems)

● Computer programmer

● Computer Science

● Linux administration

● Management Information Systems

● Ability to work collaboratively and build strong working relationships

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information technology and Information Systems, Computer Science, Systems & Network Administration, Computer Engineering or other relative area. Eligibility is limited to students who have completed a bachelor’s degree within the past 3 years, but have not been accepted and enrolled in a graduate program. The bachelor’s degree should have been completed with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent.

Desired Qualifications: (skills that are nice to have, but not necessary)

  • Experience using a ticketing system to track work, assign work, document and communicate with the customer.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Where You Will Work

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.

XIT is responsible for first contact support (issues and requests) of all software, hardware, and network (server) services for the computing environments at LANL. The division is organized around remote support, local (centralized) support, and mobile (field) support groups that are focused on aiding unclassified and classified programmatic and mission needs.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
