Los Alamos National Laboratory Work Control Planner 2/3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Work Control Planner 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Use your technical skills to develop work control plans. If you have interest in developing and/or reviewing work packages to include: material, labor estimates, written step-by-step work instructions, procedures, permit submittals, and/or safety and testing requirements for the implementation and control of operations, maintenance, or modification of work activities. Specific planning duties may be related to mechanical, electrical, chemical and/or radiological equipment, policies, and procedures and will include resolving work restraints and bringing work packages to final closure. Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for a work control planner to join the Utilities and Institutional Facilities (UI) Team.

Utilities and Institutional Facilities is responsible for maintaining and operating all of the Laboratory’s utility systems including electric, gas, sewer, steam, and water. In addition, we maintain and operate a large portion of the Laboratory’s facilities and all of the open space on site. Work Control Planner 2 $69,300.00 - $110,000.00

As a Work Control Planner 2, you will assist to prepare and develop detailed step-by-step work instructions for equipment and/or system modification, corrective maintenance, and/or preventative maintenance work packages in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations. You will also assist in identifying environmental issues and work hazards and controls such as the isolation, containment or de-energizing of various mechanical, physical, electrical, chemical and/or radiological systems according to established procedures and regulations. In addition, you will assist in identifying required labor, material and equipment needed to be successful in completing the work activity.

Work Control Planner 3 $75,400.00 - $122,900.00

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will develop and outline specifications for equipment, material and labor, identify work hazards and controls for complex work activities. You will also lead the effort in identifying environmental issues, work hazards and controls, required labor, material and equipment needed to be successful in completing the work activity.

In addition, you will oversee various functional and administrative activities in conjunction with the primary work control/work package development including, but not limited to, permit development, testing requirements, documentation generation, records management, database information management, retrieval and review, and mentoring of junior planners.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of facility (electrical/HVAC systems, building structure, etc.) and/or utility (water, sewer, high voltage, natural gas, steam, etc.) maintenance.

  • Ability to fully understand work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures.

  • Ability to fully understand and interpret various mechanical and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.

  • Ability to fully utilize and manipulate a computerized work management system in maintaining work-planning activities.

  • Familiar with work control and related policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Excellent Communication skills (Verbal and Written) to include presentations

  • Ability to work independently under minimal direction.

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Additional Job Requirements for Work Control Planner 3:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • In-depth experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research and investigating alternative solutions.

  • Knowledgeable in tracking work activities from conception through completion.

  • Experience scheduling work activities.

  • Experience in providing mentorship to fellow co-workers and Jr. Planners

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge with Asset Suites and Mobile Work Package (MWP).

  • Active Q Clearance

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
