This position will be filled at either the Web Content Specialist 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Are you an experienced content creator specializing in web content development? If so, consider joining Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), one of the world’s most prestigious and innovative multidisciplinary research institutes. This position will work on the Web Team within the Communication Arts and Services (CEA-CAS) group that provides multidisciplinary, full-service communications support for organizations and programs throughout LANL. We further the Lab’s mission by delivering strategic communications designed to inform, engage, and inspire both internal and external audiences.
As a Web Content Specialist 2, you will collaborate with visual designers and developers to plan, develop, and produce high-quality web products for Laboratory customers. You will interact with customers to create, review and approve new and updated website content. You will work with customers and subject matter experts to create, convert, and format content for the web. You will use your expertise to define and create innovative web experiences through content modeling, information architecture and metric-driven reporting.
Web Content Specialist 3 $85,400 - $136,600
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level work is accomplished without considerable direction. You will take the lead in collaborative efforts with your peers, proposing solutions and using your expertise to inform and guide projects to a successful outcome. You will demonstrate expert level proficiency in all of the tools, skills and areas of expertise outlined in the level 2 description.

Knowledge and Expertise
Intermediate proficiency in the communication field. Has ageneral understanding of written, visual and interactive communication, with a focus in Web Experience. Intermediate proficiency in copyediting or web-related writing and various writing styles. Intermediate proficiency in visual and interactive design as it relates to digital content creation, and the software used to do so. Ability to translate complex, technical and jargonized content into a format appropriate for the web. Ability to organize content into site maps and content models that provide a good UX, synergize with design standards, and lend themselves to logical and efficient implementations. Thorough understanding of digital communication standards, guidelines, and best practices, especially as they relate to UX, SEO and accessibility.
Tools and Systems
Experience developing, formatting, and publishing web content in a web authoring software or Content Management System (CMS). Experience working with a WYSIWYG to input formatted text as HTML or Markdown and the ability to edit HTML/Markdown directly.
Experience creating and editing visual content using visual design software. Experience laying out written, visual and interactive content in templates, using design software, to plan the implementation of complete digital experiences.
Experience using tools and methods for information architecture activities such as creating site maps, defining content models and defining content relationships.
Experience collecting metrics from analytics software (e.g. Google Analytics, etc). Demonstrated ability to gather and interpret usage data for the purpose of user testing, measuring success, and reporting to stakeholders.
Ability to conceptualize and communicate program requirements and detailed elements to both technical and non-technical personnel. Demonstrated skill with interpersonal, written, and verbal communication. Organization skills with high attention to detail and accuracy. Experience collaborating with developers, designers, and product stakeholders.
Able to use problem-solving skills to conduct research, investigate alternative solutions, and recommend solutions to improve services and products. Ability to monitor and maintain web content to ensure that content is accurate, up-to-date, accessible, and free of errors.
Demonstrated experience working with customers in a professional and responsive manner. Ability to meet project deadlines and manage multiple projects and competing priorities. Experience working with customers and subject matter experts to achieve project requirements and communication objectives through the creation of high-quality web content.
Additional Job Requirements for Web Content Specialist 3:
Expert level proficiency in all of the tools, skills and areas of expertise previously outlined, and a deep understanding of written, visual and interactive communication, with a focus in Web Experience.
Take initiative to help shape and redefine existing lab standards and culture surrounding the creation of web experiences, to push our practices and capabilities towards a more contemporary paradigm.
Define metrics and success criteria for communication objectives. Track usage through analytics software and adjust communication strategies accordingly. Use metrics to tell the user’s story, and share this story with stakeholders. Similarly, use metrics to measure engagement and our success at telling the Lab’s story.
Education/Experience at lower level: Bachelor’s degree in Digital Communications, Web, Design, English, or other relevant degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at higher level: Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Communications, Web, Design, English, or other relevant degree and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.
Skilled in industry-relevant design and illustration software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite). Has an understanding of photography and design and can make adjustments to photos and graphics ensuring they are the right quality, dimensions and format for web use.
Ability to do manipulation and conversion on files, such as converting file types, optimizing PDFs and making PDFs meet accessibility requirements.
Understanding of search engines to optimize front matter and metadata.
Experience with accessibility requirements such as Section 508 Compliance and accessibility tools (e.g., Siteimprove).
Experience creating engaging and shareable digital content.
Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos.
