Los Alamos National Laboratory Technical Project Manager 2 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

The Operational Readiness Implementation Division (ORI-DO) is seeking a highly skilled Technical Project Manager (TPM) to oversee and manage various projects and tasks within the Training & Mission Services group (ORI-1). The primary core tasks of the position will support the new Associate Laboratory Directorate for Plutonium Infrastructure (ALDPI) with several training-related projects that need to be researched, scoped, planned and executed/monitored in a timely manner.

The TPM-2 will report to the ORI-1 Group Leader and interface frequently with the ALDPI Training First Line Manager (FLM) to accomplish tasks. The selected individual will respond to training and project management data calls with efficiency and accuracy, utilizing Excel and other project management software to track and generate progress and metrics. The selected candidate is a team player who will work side-by-side with other TPMs within the ORI-1 TPM function to accomplish assigned tasks.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop, maintain, track and status for all levels of project-specific data calls

  • Utilize skills in data compilation, analysis and communication to develop and maintain data capturing mechanisms intended to produce metric reports for multiple teams, disciplines and projects

  • Create and maintain a consolidated database of project training task information for training; analyze the data and provide consultation on how to approach the work for most efficient results

  • Communicate with various levels management within ORI Division to gather information and provide status

  • Work to streamline processes for data inputs and outputs, as needed

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Project Management

Knowledge of and experience in project management of operational work, specifically in the area of project data management, metrics generation and status reporting mechanisms. Experience specifically related to the engineering/procurement/construction scope is a plus.

Critical Thinking

Proven ability to conduct research, investigate alternative solutions, and recommend solutions on problems affecting facility operations and operational quality assurance. Ability to effectively gather, compile and interpret technical information derived from multiple sources and match-up effective training delivery modes with the appropriately determined target audience.

Status and Reporting

Proven ability to effectively gather, compile and interpret data derived from multiple sources to produce reliable metrics, trends and forecasts. Independently able to produce project plans for multiple small projects and lead weekly/monthly/quarterly status meetings, ensuring timely completion. Experience with planning and executing to defined due dates, documenting actions completed, providing status on actions completed and completing all work tasks independently with no error.


Proven ability to conceptualize and communicate program requirements and detailed elements to both technical and non-technical personnel. Demonstrated skill with interpersonal, written, and verbal communications. Ability to provide clear, concise support and guidance to others in sometimes-stressful situations.

Education and Experience

Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

Additional Education and Training

  • Certification in Project Management preferred.

Special Skills/Knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of data management and metrics formulation

  • Skilled in schedule development and maintenance

  • Advanced understanding of P6 schedules related to EPC scope and how to mine line items of multiple schedules for applicable data

  • Knowledge of training programs, processes and applicability of training requirements in both nuclear and non-nuclear environments

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
