What You Will Do
Help execute communications at one of the world’s most prestigious and innovative multidisciplinary research institutions. Join the Communications Arts and Services group (CEA-CAS), which provides full-service communications support for organizations and programs at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Our staff further the Lab’s mission by delivering strategic communications designed to inform, engage, and inspire both internal and external audiences.
In this role you will be embedded with a specific Laboratory organization to provide communications counsel and dedicated services to leaders, managers, and staff. You will edit existing technical material based on input from subject matter experts. In addition to editorial services, you will aid in document preparation throughout the review and approval processes. We are looking for a motivated and well-rounded individual with a background in writing and technical communication. The successful candidate will be highly detail oriented, a go-getter and problem-solver, capable of coming up to speed quickly and delivering top-level customer service in a fast-paced environment.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
You will have thorough knowledge of English grammar and rhetoric and have demonstrated ability to edit content, preferably operational and technical material.
You are expected to have demonstrated experience meeting strict deadlines with simultaneous attention to quality and detail.
In this role, you will need excellent written and oral communication skills, problem-solving skills, and customer service and interpersonal skills. You will have the ability to remain courteous and professional under pressure.
You will be expected to work on documents involving multiple reviewers which requires tact and discernment.
You will need demonstrated experience with customer service in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. You will show an ability to work effectively under pressure and balance multiple tasks of varying lengths and priorities both independently and as a member of a team.
You will show an ability for process/performance improvement based on customer and manager feedback.
Tools and Systems
In this role, you will need proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and Adobe Acrobat. You will have the ability to use and develop templates and demonstrate proficiency in using Word styles for formatting.
You will need to have the ability to obtain a Q clearance, which typically requires US citizenship.
Education/Experience: This position requires two years of related experience. Preference may be given for a bachelor's or master's degree in English, journalism, technical communication, physical/social science, or a related field.
Background or interest in the nuclear industry
Experience working in a large, complex institution or company
Basic project management knowledge and experience in coordinating projects
Proficiency with Visio
Active Q Security Clearance

for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
