Los Alamos National Laboratory TA55 Outage Coordinator (Operations Specialist 4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

You will report to the TA55-OPS Operations Manager. You will be responsible for overall coordination of TA55 outages (electrical, ventilation, utilities) to ensure work is planned and executed efficiently The Outage Coordinator will be responsible for providing support for the day-to-day operations of ALDWP facilities at TA-55.

1) Position will ensure with the appropriate RLMs/work execution managers/work week coordinators that work packages are ready, equipment is available, people are available/trained, facility conditions will support the work both physically and programmatically.

2) Coordinate multiple outages during periods of opportunity such as inventories.

3) Outage coordinator will be in TA55 operations group and will be assigned the OCO/OCS qualification to enable the individual to understand the facility requirements and impacts.

4) Coordinator will pull in work for surveillances, maintenance, construction to allow promulgation impacts with TA55 stakeholders.

5) This position will be required to establish planning meetings for outages when required depending on out type.

6) This position will be required to establish pre-job meetings with operations, maintenance/construction for complicated or higher risk outages to ensure the groups involved understand the roles and responsibilities.

7) TA55 has many outage checklists established for routine outages, this function will be required to maintain these checklists and based on any issues during execution update the checklists with lessons learned or develop new checklists. These checklists provide information on the scope of the outage, the equipment lost and impacts, the required equipment lineups and restoration requirements.

8) Prior operational experience in a nuclear facility or similar environment will be required.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Broad expertise and/or unique knowledge with facility operations. Uses skills to contribute to development of objectives and principles and to achieve goals in creative and effective ways.

  • Demonstrated expert experience in conducting research, developing alternative solutions, and developing solutions for problems affecting facility operations and administration in creative ways for complex problems.

  • Expertise in conceptualizing and communicating major elements of facility operations, processes, and equipment to both technical and non-technical personnel.

  • Expert knowledge and experience with computerized maintenance management systems or work control systems.

  • Exceptional customer service, organizational skills and the ability to interact with all levels of personnel both inside and outside the Laboratory. Advanced knowledge of the Laboratory's facility operations policies, practices, and procedures, can apply them to resolve issues.

  • Advanced knowledge of legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting facility operations and administration.

DOE O 426.2: Requires a High School diploma and 3 years nuclear experience. Full-time related academic training (e.g., degree programs, trade schools, vocational programs, etc.) may be substituted on a one-for-one basis for 2 of the 3 years nuclear experience.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Active ‘Q’ clearance.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Note to Applicants:

  • Position will be assigned to a 4-10 schedule Monday through Thursday but may be required to adjust the schedule to be available on Fridays/Saturdays to observe/coordinate outages with the various groups.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
