What You Will Do

The Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for an experienced Superintendent who is ready to be responsible for managing and overseeing some of the most sophisticated electrical and mechanical facilities and systems in the world.

As a Logistics Superintendent, you will be a part of highly creative, diverse, fast-paced, efficient team tasked with tackling the most fascinating and challenging problems in our Laboratories facilities. Here at LANL we are always on the forefront, with industry leading examples of energy efficient and cost effective facilities.

Our Superintendents are constantly challenged to drive continuous improvement, deliver the highest quality work on schedule and minimizing costs, all while maximizing their mission critical facilities capabilities.

This opportunity requires complete synergy with Facilities Management, Engineering, Planning, Project Management, Material Procurement and Union Craft personnel in the performance of facility preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance and modification work activities.

Depending on the assignment, a Superintendent may be responsible for work activities at a Department of Energy Category II Nuclear Facility, Non-Nuclear Facility, or both.

Superintendent’s will also be responsible for maintaining required safety and security training, assuring safety and security compliance, and making safety and security an integral part of every task; to include taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • In depth Knowledge of Combustion Gas Turbine Generator (CGTG) Preventive and Corrective Maintenance, Instrumentation Controls, provide support to Utility Operations and Engineering related to the CGTG. Thorough understanding of Natural Gas Compressors as related to Preventive and Corrective Maintenance. Ability to provide Gas, Waste Water, Water and Sanitary Effluent Reclamation Facility (SERF) Instrumentation Controls Support.

  • Experience in electrical support to the Power Plant, Waste Water Plant, Lift Stations, Water Tanks and other Utility related systems. In depth level knowledge of interpreting various mechanical and electrical documents, specifications, drawings, and schematics.

  • ESS Support for both Operations and Maintenance in Utilities. Thorough understanding and identifying work place hazards and implementing safety policies and procedures to mitigate hazards.

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with maintenance supervision including a broad range of the following: designs and workability, safety, configuration management programs, work control, and facility control systems.

  • High level of experience reviewing project plans and coordinating with project team members to develop project cost estimates and execution schedules. Ability to track projects through all stages of execution and provide project updates when requested. Ability to of identify problem areas that could lead to project impacts, track project impacts and to perform trend analysis to provide process improvement ideas to increase efficiency.

  • Expert level knowledge of the lock-out/tag-out process.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of relevant experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the position.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience directing work and understanding of collective union bargaining agreements.

  • Applicant should display a working knowledge and/or experience working in an operating hazardous facility.

  • Knowledge of environmental laws, regulations and requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn and utilize a computerized work management system in maintaining and tracking job activities.

  • Demonstrated skill in the preparation and presentation of oral and written reports.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
