Los Alamos National Laboratory Software Developer 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Software and Applications Engineering (SAE) Division supports Los Alamos National Laboratory’s (LANL) enterprise application and performs software application development support, database development and administration, software quality management, and enterprise application consulting.

The SAE-3 Site Infrastructure, Mission, and Programs Software Group provides software engineering services, custom application development, and commercial off the shelf application implementations.

We are currently looking for an experienced .NET software developer to join our team in support of the Engineering Services division where you will develop and maintain a variety of applications that have impacts across the entire laboratory. The division provides system engineering support, design, and project services for maintenance & operations activities.

Our objective is to deliver reliable, secure, and cost effective software and applications that meet business and operational needs in support of the LANL mission.

You will work on supporting and developing .NET applications for the Engineering Services division. You must have extensive experience with .NET software development, demonstrate knowledge of development tools and processes as well as the ability to architect state-of-the-art web and mobile solutions. Multi-tasking and excellent organizational skills are a must in this position, and experience with mentoring junior developers.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Software

Knowledge and experience with ASP, ASP.NET (MVC/Core), VB.Net, WebAPI, SQL, and C#. Familiar with .NET Core software development specifically around MVC and Entity Framework. Familiar with modern front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery. Version control system experience with git or similar. Relational database experience specifically in MS SQL Server and/or Oracle. Familiar with reporting and management tools such as SSMS and SSRS. Experience designing and reviewing database configuration, models, and queries for efficiency and correctness. Knowledge in IIS Configuration and Administration.

Agile Methodology

Experience using agile practices and principles, and experience utilizing Scrum or Kanban. Knowledge of collaboration software such as Jira/Confluence or similar tools.

Problem Solving

Solving unique Web development and production problems by using analytic ability and innovative thinking to meet budget, timetables, and objectives. Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to problems.

Clearance

Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain DOE clearances, which normally requires US citizenship.

Education/Experience

Position typically requires a relevant bachelor's degree and a minimum of eight years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master’s Degree is preferred.

Supporting and maintaining existing applications in VB.NET and C#. DevSecOps, DevOps knowledge is a plus.

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NMwith the potential for teleworking from a location within 2 hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite will be periodically required. Telework is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
