What You Will Do

TheWeapons Research Services Secure Information Services (WRS-SIS) group is seeking an expert level software developer. The selected candidate for this positionwill work on classified and unclassified systems developing applications using a variety of tools forproduction environments used for Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Configuration Management (CM) through PTC's Windchill (PDMLink) product as well as information repositories such and Documentum and related tools such as Creo, ThingWorx,WDK, DFC, DFS, Java, JSPsupporting scientific research, weapons engineering, weapons physics data and information management, work-group collaboration, bulk data transformation and other needs as they emerge. Additional application development may include Oracle’s Application Express (APEX). This work is on a small team with broad responsibilities which offers a variety of IT assignments in addition to development activities. These tasks will include requirements analysis, software design, installation, testing and maintenance, as well as advancing application security, writing documentation and supporting and training scientific, engineering and administrative customers.

Ideal candidates should be enthusiastic, innovative, and creative with tools and technologies as well as work well with customers, team, vendors, and other DOE Laboratories doing similar work. Additionally, the ideal candidate would have work experience with PTC Windchill (PDMLink), Creo, MathCAD and ThingWorx, as well as Web-based programming. The selected candidate for this position should have the ability to program in Java, Java Script, HTML, SQL, and XML and strive to foster a collaborative environment and partnerships to develop and deploy novel solutions and explore emergent technologies.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Support internal software applications and systems by investigating, designing, documenting, troubleshooting, training, and implementing new applications and hardware;

  • Analyzing user requirements for system features and functionality, investigating software requirements, original programming, system testing, and creating comprehensive software documentation;

  • Research, evaluate, and make recommendations around the implementation of new or existing software features and emerging technologies;

  • Collaborate on projects with team members, Design Agency and Production Agency engineers, other laboratory computing efforts, and other DOE laboratories doing similar work;

  • Provide technical direction and/or coordinates activities with team members and other relevant personnel;

  • Document and present work to relevant audiences; and

  • Work with vendor's customer support, sales reps, and technical working groups.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated proficiency implementing one or more of the following: PTC Windchill, Creo, or Documentum Content Server, WebTop, Administrator and xPlore;

  • Extensive experience developing web applications using such technologies as HTML,Java, Javascript, CSS, XML, AJAX and DOM and Weblogic, JBoss or Tomcat application servers;

  • Solid relational database design and implementation skills utilizing databases such as Oracle RDBMS, SQL*Server or PostgreSQL;

  • Demonstrated experience in the software development lifecycle to include design, development, modification, testing, debugging and evaluation of software, data management, and security to meet functional requirements;

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze existing programs or formulate logic for new systems, devise procedures, prepare documentation, perform coding and test/debug programs;

  • Demonstratedadvanced technical skills and independent judgement to solve complex technical issues;

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer facing skills working in a team environment and regularly interacting with management, administrators, scientists and engineers; and

  • Production capability for accurate, well-written technical documentation.

Desired Skills:

  • Expertise installing, implementing and customizing PTC products such as PDMLink, Creo, ThingWorx, Integrity, and/or Documentum products such as Content Server 6 or 7 and applications using the Documentum APIs such as Web Development Kit (WDK), Documentum Foundation Classes (DFC) or Documentum Foundation Services (DFS);

  • Strong interest in contributing to US national security and developing a deep understanding of the science and engineering processes which drives the SIS Group’s customer requirements;

  • Working knowledge or familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management systems and/or Configuration Management systems;

  • Demonstrated record of success in developing and maintaining strong working relationships with staff, administrators, and other internal and external partners

  • Skill at developing on Eclipse/Composer in a Windows Server environment; and

  • Experience applying the BlueFish Migration Workbench to data migration activities.


  • Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.
