Los Alamos National Laboratory Quality Assurance Specialist (QPA Specialist 3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This seasoned, experienced professional will be based in the Institutional Quality (QPA-IQ) group and report to the QPA-IQ Supply Chain Quality lead. The selected candidate will be a part of QPA-IQ’s team who are responsible for receipt inspection, procurement quality, supplier evaluations, and the Institutional Evaluated Suppliers List (IESL). The successful candidate, working under limited guidance, should have the skill to develop, implement, and evaluate processes, procedures and applications contributing to the overall objectives of maintaining an effective quality assurance program. Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform supplier audits/evaluations and facilitate on-going communication with suppliers to assure procurement requirements are met and issues are effectively resolved.

  • Perform institutional audits and assessments, prepare reports, develop corrective action reports and track actions to closure.

  • Assist Laboratory personnel with the procurement quality requirements of LANL Procedure P840-1, Quality Assurance for Procurements.

  • Review Nuclear Safety Class and Safety Significant Oracle iProcurement database Purchase Requisitions for adequacy, and “reject” or “approve”.

  • Interface with Laboratory personnel as requested and assist with or complete necessary quality related Forms and Exhibits required for procurements.

  • Assist with maintenance of the Institutional Evaluated Suppliers List (IESL).

  • Interface with the internal procurement organization to resolve questions, participate on procurement bid review teams and assist in resolution of Supplier/Vendor issues

  • Assist with the review and comment resolution of QPA Documents and Work Instructions.

  • Assist in the maintenance of QPA Records, including retrieval, verification, and control of quality records.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge and experience with Quality Assurance Standards, such as 10 CFR 830 Subpart A, DOE Order 414.1D, national consensus standard ASME NQA-1—2008/ASME NQA-1a-2009 Addenda, NAP-24, ISO 9001 and/or U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulatory Guide Series or equivalent.

  • Advanced demonstrated working knowledge and experience with quality concepts and principles and how these are applied.

  • Strong demonstrated experience in preparing and presenting reports.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and advanced demonstrated experience interacting and effectively communicating with all levels of customers and management.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience with procurements and supplier/vendor interfaces.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience leading and supporting quality assessments, surveillances, and/or audits.

  • Experience in the preparation of quality assurance (QA) procedures to ensure compliance with requirements.

  • Previous experience as an Auditor.

  • Experience with various types of databases (Microsoft Access, etc.).

  • Experience with Oracle iProcurement.

Education:This position typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 8 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

The Institutional Quality (IQ) group supports the Laboratory by assisting organizations ensure quality work is executed consistently and effectively across the institution. The IQ mission is to integrate quality requirements into engineering processes, validate that policies and programs meet regulatory and customer requirements, and develop/manage electronic systems to support the QPA division institutional programs.
