Los Alamos National Laboratory QA/QC Inspector 4 in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
This position will be filled at the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Inspector 4 level.
The successful candidate(s) will perform the following duties in this position:
Perform moderate to highly-complex inspections on various machined components and assemblies against acceptance criteria or to meet principal-investigator requirements.
Provide consultation for inspection procedure development, and may make recommendations, based on customer needs, for process alternatives and revisions.
Perform in-process quality control and inspection in accordance with statistical processes and other control procedures.
Develop solutions to complex problems, which requires the regular use of ingenuity, creativity, and independence.
Operate/program inspection equipment (Coordinate Measuring Machines, optical systems, rotary and hard gages and other open setup equipment) and perform inspection operations.
Perform complex set-ups, alignments, maintenance, operations, and/or calibration of conventional tools and/or equipment.
Evaluate the validity and acceptability of inspection results.
Perform on-site tasks related to quality control (QC) compliance.
Participate in the development of procedures related to specific assignment area.
Program inspection equipment using proprietary programming languages.
Monitor operations for adherence to project plans, specifications, and procedures.
Perform all evolutions within the conduct-of-operations environment of either a high-explosive or nuclear-operations facility.
Will train and guide functional and/or technical responsibilities of less-experienced inspectors or technicians.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience in metrology and inspections operations.
Advanced demonstrated experience performing set up, alignments, maintenance, operations, and/or calibration of conventional tools and/or equipment.
Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience using GD&T; technical principles, theories, and concepts.
Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience using and interpreting, engineering blueprints, sketches, specifications, and related data to assist in the evaluation of design factors, and conducting operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment.
Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement and follow detailed procedures and work instructions.
4-6 years of directly-relevant quality inspection experience.
Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently with limited supervision.
Demonstrated experience in researching, specifying, and selecting measurement and test equipment.
Experience with high explosives operations, safety requirements, and/or demonstrated experience working under the DOE Order 440.1B, High Explosives Safety Manual or alternately working in a nuclear facility under DOE O 422.1, Conduct of Operations.
Willing to work in vault-type room handling explosives.
Experience programming CMM and/or optical systems for inspection (such as Calypso, Quindos)
Active Q Clearance preferred.
Technical institute graduation or Associate’s in Engineering Technology, Metrology and 4-6years of related experience in equivalent machining, inspection, examination, or test activities.
Completion of a formal machinist/inspection apprenticeship program or equivalent training and 6 years of related experience in equivalent machining, inspection, examination, or test activities.
Formal certification as a Certified Quality Inspector, Technical Institute graduation, or AA and 6 years of related experience in equivalent machining, inspection, examination, or test activities.
