Los Alamos National Laboratory Procurement Specialist 3/4 in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Procurement Specialist 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
The Acquisition Services Management (ASM) Division is looking for an experienced, highly motivated individual to help lead the delivery of services within the ASM Supplier Management Group (ASM-SM). The selected candidate will lead and/or support the delivery of the supplier registration, qualification, enablement and performance management processes. In addition this position will play an integral role in the delivery of services through the supplier desk, providing direct support to LANL’s external suppliers. The selected candidate is expected to uphold high standards of professionalism while executing their work and to promote collaboration and teamwork. As a senior team member they will also provide guidance and leadership to junior level staff and serve as a role model for them.
The ASM Division provides procurement services to the laboratory. ASM-SM is responsible for the management of the registration, qualification, enablement and performance management processes related to external suppliers (or subcontractors) of the laboratory.
Procurement Specialist 3 ($83,300 – $136,200)
The successful candidate will:
Use advanced analytical skills to improve the supplier management process through the identification of business process improvement opportunities, implementation of innovative solutions and advanced techniques. The Procurement Specialist 3 leads collaborative initiatives to optimize supplier management processes, providing guidance on priorities for the ASM Division related to the supplier registration, qualification and performance management processes.
Procurement Specialist 4 ($101,000 – $168,600)
In addition to the duties outlined above, the Procurement Specialist 4 will:
Work on significant, unique or complex issues and provide solutions that are highly creative. They will work with ASM staff and other organizations on cross-organizational improvement initiatives. The Procurement Specialist 4 frequently contributes to the development of new methods and provides leadership for the supplier management process and team members. The Procurement Specialist 4 assignments are often self-initiated and self-supervisory. They are responsible for providing direction and/or coordinating activities of other personnel using wide latitude in the methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Additional Job Requirements forProcurement Specialist 4 ($98,900 – $165,100)
In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
Demonstrated experience leading or managing project or small teams in delivery of a product or service
Demonstrated experience with mentoring, staff development, and performance management
Advanced experience with process improvement strategies and business process mapping
Excellent analytical skills to assess complex business problems and identify solutions
Expert-level knowledge in supply chain, procurement, supplier management or finance/accounting principles
Procurement Specialist 3 Education/Experience: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.
Procurement Specialist 4 Education/Experience: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of twelve years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected.
Demonstrated experience leading and implementing change in an organization
Experience with project management techniques
Trained in process improvement tools (e.g., Lean and Six Sigma principles)
