Los Alamos National Laboratory Procurement Engineer (Engineering Technologist 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The selected candidate will execute Procurement Engineering support activities for TA-55 Equipment Installation and self-performed line item construction projects. Assist with design/constructability review process. Assist with researching codes and standards. Responsible for reviewing installation designs and specifications and Design Review Record forms (DRR); responsible for interpretation of design and quality requirements for development of procurement packages. Based on specified design requirements, prepares comprehensive procurement packages for TA-55 installation projects including item descriptions, quality requirements, acceptance testing, receipt inspection and technical requirements. Possess technical knowledge in reading engineering drawings and LANL Master Construction Specifications. Validates material specified conforms in all aspects to the approved design. Comply with institutional procurement policies and procedures and be familiar with NQA-1 quality requirements. Investigates potential suppliers and recommends those most desirable based on the management level and technical and performance requirements of the item. Prioritizes work based on programmatic demands. Provides project oversight, initiates process improvement efforts and collaborates with engineering to develop a Consolidated Bill of Material (CBOM) to be used for ordering. Consults with engineering, craft supervisors and project management personnel to resolve procurement related issues throughout the project.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in procurement engineering for technical or operational work, including developing technical specifications, developing and managing CBOMS, tracking material and developing compliant procurement packages for safety class and significant items.

  • In-depth knowledge in reviewing design specifications, drawings, and CBOMs for engineering related issues that will affect material.

  • Proven ability to multitask and possess a keen attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a sometimes stressful environment.

  • Record of effective written and oral communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, & Outlook.

Desired Skills:

  • Working knowledge of conduct of engineering principles and configuration management as they relate to a nuclear facility.

  • Experience with the Design Change Process, interpreting engineering drawings and specifications andknowledge of mechanical and electrical components.

  • Ability to create Bill of Material Lists (BOM’s) from design documents such as drawings and specifications.

  • Demonstrated experience with developing and submitting pre-procurement submittal packages for approval by the designated A&E.;

  • Familiarity with the principles and theories of engineering, mathematics and science to solve routine technical problems in area of discipline. Make simple calculations and analyses in support of engineering.

  • Proven ability to provide excellent customer service. Ability to work cohesively in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated understanding of NQA-1 quality drivers, management levels, and commercial grade dedication plans.

Education:Associate's degree in engineering, engineering technology; baccalaureate degree preferred, or years of relevant experience in lieu of degree requirement; and at least 5 years of relevant experience preferred.

NPI-8 provides business services in the areas of technical procedure writers, training support, document control, records management, and unclassified and classified computer support for ADPSM.
