Los Alamos National Laboratory Postdoctoral Researcher in the Physics of Self-organization in High Energy Density, Nonlinear, Kinetic Plasmas in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
XTD is the nuclear weapons design division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). We use sophisticated multi-physics simulations on high- performance supercomputers to ensure the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear deterrent and assess global nuclear threats. We are staffed by scientists and engineers who come from a variety of disciplines, including physics, astrophysics, applied mathematics, nuclear and mechanical engineering, and material science.
This specific opening is for a new project aimed at Smart Computing and statistical analyses incorporating Machine Learning, focusing on improving the performance and reach of kinetic plasma simulations. The successful applicant will be part of a team that is implementing new algorithms and techniques for advancing multiscale multi-physics simulations of kinetic plasmas and their application to nonlinear laser plasma interactions, and plasma transport.
The successful candidate will :
Work as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team that isimplementing new algorithms and techniques for advancing multiscale multi-physics simulations of kinetic plasmas.
Execute computational models that run at scale on the latest high-performance computers.
Document work products in written form, e.g. code documentation, memoranda, and journal publications.
Present work achievements to the team and management, sponsors, and when appropriate to the scientific community at technical conferences.
Collaborate with LANL scientists and engineers, as well as scientists at other laboratories and universities.
Postdoctoral Researcher : Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded. On the anniversary of these dates, salaries are automatically adjusted to the next higher level, e.g. PhD + 0: $75,500; PhD + 1: $77,400, etc. For more information go to https://www.lanl.gov/careers/career-options/postdoctoral-research/postdoc-program/postdoc-salary-guidelines.php .
