What You Will Do
This position is housed within the Planning and Monitoring Services Team within the Environmental Stewardship Group in the Environmental Protection and Compliance Division of the Associate Directorate for Environment, Safety and Health at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The position is responsible for supporting analysis of systems, processes and documentation to maintain and improve the efficacy of the Laboratory’s ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System (EMS). This position will also assist in maintaining certification, support institutional EMS implementation, participate in audits and assessments, assist in providing technical guidance and work with a wide variety of environmental, technical, and programmatic personnel and organizations.
Specifically, this selected candidate will work with other EMS staff to:
Identify and collect information associated with environmental metrics
Develop methods for retrieving, tracking, displaying and communicating metric-related information
Support external audits and internal assessments;
Support environmental risk analysis and action management for programmatic organizations;
Support activities associated with the EMS cycle including EMS Core Team meetings and Environmental Senior Management Steering Committee meetings;
Support maintenance of EMS tools and resources
Work includes working with others individually and in groups at all levels of the Laboratory, providing information regarding the EMS for meetings and presentations to include preparation and/or assembly of written material and viewgraphs as needed.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Completed Bachelor’s degree in environmental regulatory compliance, environmental science, earth sciences, engineering, law or a related/relevant field.
Demonstrated ability to prepare high quality documents demonstrating outstanding research and writing skills (must provide writing sample).
Demonstrated experience working as part of a team to develop, implement, or complete complex documents or projects.
Ability to comprehend and analyze complex project proposals.
Awareness regarding and interest in supporting the implementation of an ISO 14001:2015 certified Environmental Management System.
Knowledge of and experience in collecting, tracking, communicating information and metrics.
Experience or interest in organizing and performing activities requiring planning and scheduling
Experience or evaluating work for associated environmental risks and hazards
Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with others
Demonstrated experience producing high quality work products, presentations, procedures, tools or other materials
Awareness of environmental programs, types of environmental risks, compliance and performance issues and environmental spectrum of work in a large, multi-disciplinary, corporate or university like setting
Understanding of institutional organization dynamics, diverse scopes of work, and operational structures, short and long-term planning
Demonstrated experience interacting with varying levels of management and types of employees
Self-initiating, communicative work style with strong interpersonal and collaborative-work capabilities
Auditing or inspecting experience
Education:Degree in an environment-related field, physical or natural science, or social science.
