What You Will Do

The Applied Modern Physics Group performs research in a number of areas involving the solution of Inverse Problems. Currently, we are seeking an outstanding candidate to develop and implement hybrid and/or self-adaptive multi-method optimization algorithms to solve problems in the Homeland Security area. The application of a response surface methodology is also desired.

Applicants should have some experience in a relevant field and a strong desire to apply their skills to our problems.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research in optimization method development.

  • Demonstrated ability to implement (code) optimization methods, and apply to problems of interest.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Strong scientific research credentials as demonstrated by a record, appropriate for experience level, of peer-reviewed conference or journal publications.

Desired Skills:

  • Programming in C and or Python

  • Technical writing and public speaking

  • Experience in high performance computing, preferably with MPI

Education: Ph.D. in physics, mathematics, or a related field within the past five years or soon to be completed.
