Los Alamos National Laboratory Operations Manager / (Operations Manager 3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Operations Manager 3 in the LANSCE Facility Operations organization reports to the LANSCE Facility Operations Director (FOD). The position provides leadership, technical direction, and oversight of Facility Operations as it relates to FOD responsibilities, and directs daily Operations, provides budgetary oversight, and coordinates facility activities. The Operations Manager will ensure the overall safety and security of operations within their assigned facilities, and will ensure deployed functions (e.g., ESH&Q, Engineering, Maintenance) are accountable for their performance in support of Operations in their respective areas of responsibility. The Operations Manager will strive to provide extraordinary customer service to facility tenants, programmatic operations, and other customers within assigned facilities. This Operations Manager position will be assigned the Balance of Plant facilities at LANSCE and will be the team leader for Building Managers in the organization.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead team responsible for operating facility equipment in support of 24/7 LANSCE accelerator and experimental area operations
Provide oversite necessary to assure facility compliance with safety and security policies, environmental requirements, and other applicable DOE/governmental orders in these areas
Implement Conduct of Operations and support Conduct of Maintenance and Engineering processes as they pertain to facility work
Own role as primary point of contact for facility related issues, including coordination of maintenance, programmatic activities, and communication with facility tenants
Take ownership and direct responsibility for facility/system operating condition to include configuration management control, and serving as an expert resource in the operation and monitoring of facility systems
Leads, coordinates, and ensures compliance with Operations process for planning, activity review, and progress tracking
Serve on a periodic and rotating on‐call team, respond to abnormal and emergency events during off-shift hours
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated operations leadership and supervisory oversight including technical direction, program execution and good business practices/judgement
Demonstrated record of promoting teamwork, consensus building, mentoring and motivating peers and subordinates across organizational lines
Thorough knowledge of facility systems or similar system operations
Thorough knowledge of Conduct of Operations and Maintenance programs
Experience and demonstrated skill in identifying problem areas, investigating solutions, and determining action to be performed
Knowledge/understanding of engineering and construction codes and standards associated with facility systems
Demonstrated understanding and implementation of work planning and control including hazard identification, hazards analysis, and control implementation applying the hierarchy of controls for a wide range of complex, hazardous activities
Excellent oral/written communication skills to include presentations and report writing
Demonstrated ability to utilize Excel and computerized maintenance management/work control software to create, track, update, analyze, and develop reports for work within assigned facilities
Professional knowledge of Integrated Work Management principles (or demonstration of equivalent)
Expert-level understanding of hazardous-energy control, including LOTO application practices and configuration control
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree (preferably Engineering, or related technical discipline) and 5 years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Demonstrated skill in management, supervision, and human resources administration of assigned employees
Direct experience with Chiller/Cooling Tower equipment operations, HVAC operations, Building Automation Systems, Fire Protection systems, etc.
Demonstrated experience with LANL Engineering and Conduct of Operations
Demonstrated experience in abnormal event response and incident/occurrence investigation to include root cause analysis, and lessons learned.
Demonstrated experience leading process improvement initiatives with evidence of successful outcomes
Ability to utilize Excel and computerized maintenance management/work control software to create, track, update, analyze, and develop reports for work within assigned facilities
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.
