Los Alamos National Laboratory Office Engineer (Construction Engineer 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do_
  • This position reports to the CMRR Project Field Engineering Manager (PFE).

  • Track and expedite Design Changes, Non-Conformance Reports, and submittals for both direct hire and subcontracted work.

  • Assist in the review and closure of construction related records and transmittal to document control.

  • Track CBOM items and coordinate with Field Engineers and Designated Procurement Representative to ensure timely resolution of material issues and receipt to meet schedule needs.

  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting design drawings and specifications.

  • Supports CMRR Construction Team as required, including the PFE, Field Engineers, Superintendents, Subcontract Technical Representatives (STR), and Construction Managers, to meet the CMRR Project needs.

  • Assist the STRs with development of scopes of work for new subcontracts.

  • Assist the PFE with the administration of the Field Engineering Program.

  • Assist with the preparation of the Readiness Packages to start construction work.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline and/or actual work experience and certifications leading to the thorough understanding of the knowledge described above and a minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Familiar with construction engineering activities

  • Basic understanding of request for proposals, project scope, estimates, schedules, and permits.

  • Experience working with both self-performed and subcontract work activities.

  • Familiarity with construction scheduling, code and specification requirements, material take-offs, document control and records requirements.

  • Experience and skill in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and determining appropriate path forward.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience preparing clear and concise inspection and oversight reports.

Desired Skills:

  • Familiar with Subcontract Technical Representative (STR) responsibilities.

  • Have a familiarity with Standard Work Process Procedures.

  • Self-engaged in becoming an SME in codes associated with job function

  • Must be able to physically traverse construction sites in order to perform duties. This may include lifting items weighing up to 40 pounds, climbing ladders, scaffolds, crawling in low height areas routinely.

  • The job may require extensive time to be spent in the field performing oversight of construction activities.
