What Will You Do
Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for a highly motivated and customer service focused, individual to support the Hazardous Waste Management (NPI-6) Group. NPI-6 ensures safe, efficient and compliant waste management of all radioactive and hazardous wastes generated at the TA-55 Plutonium Facility, the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research (CMR) building, the TA-50 Radioactive Liquid Waste Treatment Facility (RLWTF), the Radiological Laboratory Utility Office Building (RLUOB), the Transuranic Waste Facility (TWF) and the Radioassay and Nondestructive Testing Facility (RANT). NPI-6 provides plenty of opportunity to learn new things and a supportive environment when challenges arise.
The Nuclear Material Specialist will be a member of NPI-6 supporting the TRU Waste Operations at TA-55. The successful candidate will work in a team-oriented environment and provide WCATS/LANMAS data entry, data queries, data analysis and data validation for material and waste to support NPI-6 waste mission. The candidate will use WCATS and LANMAS to enter waste container data and collect data to support the processing, shipping, storage and disposition activities of nuclear material and waste. The selected candidate will interface with teams within the group and with other groups within TA55 and the Laboratory.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Professional Level Experience: General knowledge of nuclear material inventory data analysis, including planning, trending, reporting and controlling and general knowledge of nuclear materials management including special nuclear materials processing, storage, control, disposition and distribution.
Regulatory Compliance: General knowledge of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to nuclear materials management
Business Systems: General knowledge of database queries, forms, and reports in WCATS and LANMAS. Advanced knowledge with Microsoft Office, SQL or other data query languages
Problem Solving: Advanced and demonstrative experience with solving problems, developing solutions, and innovating operational practices to ensure customer satisfaction.
Communication: Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.
Teamwork: Experience teaming with multiple organizations to accomplish objectives and demonstrated ability to elicit effective teamwork, including mentoring and motivating team members and peers.
Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Safety and Security: Knowledge of facility operating requirements, safety authorization basis and /or Conduct of Operations and working knowledge of classified computing and classified document handling requirements.
Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of waste management, and fissile shipping, radiological controls, criticality safety
Clearance: Active Q clearance and ability to participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP)
