What You Will Do
The Network, Infrastructure, and Engineering-Telecommunication Services group (NIE- The Network, Infrastructure, and Engineering-Telecommunication Services group (NIE-TS) is seeking an experienced Network Professional 2 to provide design and engineering services for the Collaborative Meetings team. NIE-TS provides telecommunication technologies and services enabling science, research programs, and daily operations at LANL. The group provides the entire Laboratory with voice, wireless, data, and video communication services. The selected candidate will be responsible for designing, installing, and training users on classified and unclassified VTC systems, as well as mixed-mode Media Display Systems. The candidate will also perform Tier 2/3 system troubleshooting services for teleconference room systems and desktop conferencing systems (WebEx, Zoom, and MS Teams are used at the Laboratory). The candidate will also have demonstrated experience with computer network hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, and the software associated with these type of devices.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
VTC, Network, and Media Display System Design, Installation, Training and Troubleshooting
Demonstrated competency in Video Teleconferencing (VTC) standards and protocols that are used. H.323 and or SIP.
Demonstrated competency in working with customers and vendors to design and install classified and unclassified VTC and Media Display systems.
Demonstrated competency in CODECs and network switches, including system configuration, setup, and troubleshooting.
Demonstrated competency in configuring and managing conference bridging systems.
Understanding of troubleshooting principles in regard to bridging functions, networks, and general videoconferencing services.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, including the demonstrated ability to independently interpret data and information to produce advanced Word documents, SharePoint libraries, Excel spreadsheets, Visio drawings, and PowerPoint presentations.
Information Technology Systems
- Demonstrated experience with Desktop conferencing systems (WebEx, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype for Business, Google Meets). Demonstrated experience with Video Teleconferencing System hardware.
- Demonstrated ability to network effectively with other administrators and key contacts outside their area of expertise, both internal and external to the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to manage frequent interruptions and changing priorities calmly; complete assignments without established procedures; be available, dependable, and punctual; and act as a facilitator when needed.
Education/Experience: The position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated competency in Polycom and Cisco Codian bridging systems
Demonstrated competency in understanding dual-use systems for classified and unclassified VTC.
Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
