Los Alamos National Laboratory Metrology Quality Compliance Specialist (Quality Assurance Specialist 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Join the Los Alamos National Laboratory Standards and Calibration Laboratory (S&CL) as a member of our quality compliance team. This position supports implementation of Department of Energy and LANL Metrology Program requirements through the performance of technical supplier evaluations and oversight of LANL Metrology Program implementation.

The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of regulatory requirements hierarchy and flow down; ISO 17025, General Requirements for the Competency of Testing and Calibration Laboratories; Quality Management System processes; and have technical calibration, testing, or inspection competencies.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge metrology quality concepts and principles (e.g., customer focus, nonconformance principles, continuous improvement methods, quality business processes, reengineering methods, change methods, process measurements, etc.) and how these are applied.

  • Significant experience integrating ISO 17025 requirements with Federal requirements and National and/or International Standards.

  • Advance knowledge and understanding of calibration principles (i.e. range, tolerance, uncertainty, and guard banding) and good measurement practices necessary to formulate technical compliance decisions.

  • Advanced understanding of a wide range of measuring, inspection, and test equipment, methods, and their critical characteristics that may impact use or calibration of the items.

  • Ability to evaluate determined levels of risk, establish and apply graded approach plans.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and good communication skills.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience supporting Federal Metrology Program implementation

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Department of Energy Metrology Program requirements.

  • Advanced knowledge of ISO 17025 compliant Calibration Laboratory operations, practices and audits

  • Lead Auditor qualification or ability to obtain Lead Auditor qualification

  • Knowledge with LANL Production and Design Agency responsibilities, systems, components.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served at least one year of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
