What You Will Do
The successful candidate will work as part of the Materials Development team to provide analytical support for a variety of solid-, liquid, and gas-phase samples.The successful candidate will be required to:
Provide high quality analytical chemistry and materials characterization results for routine samples
Work with vendorsand Subject Matter Experts to maintain, troubleshoot and repair analytical instruments
Learn and use new instrumentation techniques
Communicate results through periodic meetings, emails,internal reports, technical publications and/or progress reports to sponsors.Day to day verbal interactions with SME’s
Perform work in glove boxes and/or fume hoods
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry completed in the last 3 years and not accepted to graduate school
Fluent in common software packages like Microsoft (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Demonstrated knowledge with the safe and proper handling of hazardous chemicals – give an example in your cover letter
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to use laboratory equipment such as balances, forceps, pipets, syringes, vacuum pumps, ovens, and hand tools
Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following analytical techniques: TGA, FTIR, DSC, GC-FID, GC/MS, UV-Vis, multinuclear NMR, BET, Karl Fisher titration
Basic chemical synthesis, on the benchtop or under inert atmosphere
Agile with more advanced graphing software (Origin)

The Materials Synthesis and Integrated Devices group (MPA-11), conducts basic and applied research in areas related to applied energy programs and a variety of problems relevant to the weapons program. Our goal is to provide innovative and creative solutions needed to solve technical problems across the Laboratory’s missions, including energy security, stockpile stewardship, and global threat reduction.
