Los Alamos National Laboratory Materials Engineer (R&D Engineer 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Come join the best and brightest minds in the world at one of the most innovative and creative multidisciplinary research institutions engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The work we do at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) matters to our country and the world.

Exciting opportunities currently exist in the Associate Directorate for Plutonium Science and Manufacturing (ADPSM). This R&D; Engineer 2 will initiate and conduct engineering assignments with specific engineering responsibilities in the areas of inert component and detonator manufacturing process development, and operations. Primary work scope will be in support of the High Explosive Detonator Fabrication (DET-1), Inert Component Fabrication Group (DET-2), and the Detonator Operations (DET-3) teams responsible for the fabrication, inspection, and testing of War Reserve and experimental inert detonator components and subcomponents. The selected candidate will be expected to develop solutions to complex problems, design and implement new technologies, improve production cycle times, and maximize production yield rates as related to detonator manufacturing as well as conduct post-disassembly inspections and analyses on nuclear weapon stockpile assets. Work will be accomplished without considerable direction; the successful candidate can expect significant latitude in determining objectives of assignments, identifying and implementing emerging technologies, and determination of technical approaches.
