What You Will Do

Come join our team! We are looking for a Nuclear Materials Accountant (NMCA Specialist 2) for the TA55 NMCA Deployed Team, a part of Nuclear Material Control & Accountability (SAFE-NMCA) group in the Safeguards Division (SAFE-DO).

The SAFE-NMCA group provides safeguards support to ensure effective accountability and control of nuclear materials at the Laboratory. SAFE-NMCA's mission is to support national security by providing: superior technical support, compliant and efficient NMC&A programs, and performance assurance through rigorous operational testing and oversight. This position within the SAFE-NMCA is a deployed position providing MC&A support to the TA-55 facility and is primarily concerned with tracking and measurement control of nuclear material for Category I, II, III and IV MBAs.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of nuclear materials accountability practices including associated tracking and documentation requirements, polices, procedures, etc.

  • Demonstrated experience in material control and accountability activities, or nuclear material control, or nuclear material technical activities.

  • In-depth problem solving skills, analytical skills and the ability to execute accounting decisions consistent with regulatory drivers and generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Experience identifying inventory issues and performing anomalous item investigations.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of policies relating to security, transportation and safety.

  • Ability to interface with all levels of management, technical, and non-technical personnel.

  • Ability to work as a member of a deployed team in a very busy office.

Education/Experience : Position requires an Associate’s Degree and 6 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience directly related to the occupation.

Additional consideration may be given to professionally recognized training and certifications in related fields

Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of LANMAS transactions, including mix and split, containerization, updating items after measurement, editing, etc. to ensure compliance with MC&A requirements.

  • Knowledge of MC&A requirements as outlined in DOE O 474.2, the LANL MC&A Plan, and LANL PD 205.

  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills for generating reports, presentations, and trending.

  • Demonstrated experience performing inventory adjustments based on measurements, measurement analysis, and evaluation of item/batch activity.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q **(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.**

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
