Los Alamos National Laboratory Manufacturing Support Engineer&#8211; Supply Chain (Engineering Technologist 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Looking to be part of a dynamic team focused on continuous improvement in organization wide strategies, analytics, methodologies and systems? Join the Detonator Production team as Manufacturing Support Engineer to provide technical oversight of DP procured commodities. Act as a liaison between DP Engineering and Supplier Technical staff, offer technical solutions and insight where applicable, participate in the development of procurement technical data and collaborate to develop technical solution that meet DP’s production needs. As a Manufacturing Engineer in the Manufacturing Support Group, you will be part of a high performing supply chain team, ensuring the success of the Detonator Manufacturing Production Agency. You will provide superior quality and value towards our national security mission; consulting on a daily basis to meet mission deliverables by supplying the Detonator Production team with products and services to assist in the protection of our nation and promote world stability.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical Consultation

Experience working with technical staff to determine technical specifications related to procurement of materials and equipment, as well as the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, vendors and suppliers. Working knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.


Experience performing procurement related functions in a fast paced, highly regulated environment with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously as well as identifying and helping to resolve supply chain impacts related to acquisitions and operational acquisition activities.

Policies and Procedure Application

Demonstrated ability to comply with policies, and specifically relating to procurement processes and procedures of weapons related items and weapons quality. Experience working with records tracking and inventory database systems.

Continuous Improvement

Knowledge and/or experience being part of continuous improvement (CI) activities using Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma, and other CI methodologies/tools.


Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree required and 5 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

Supply Chain Management

Experience with supply chain management concepts related to production manufacturing.

Experience in Weapons Procurement

Experience in preparing weapons related item procurements.

Experience in Logistics Planning/Data Analysis

Experience with logistics and production planning methodologies (e.g., just-in-time, materials requirement planning) Experience with data analysis tools and enablers such as SQL, MS Project, MS Excel, etc.

Reasoning Ability

The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and develop meaningful and practical solutions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in narrative. Experience with analytics topics such as simulation, statistical analysis, probability, data extraction, input, and cleansing.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
