What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Computing Systems Professional 3 / Computing Systems Professional 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. eXperience Information Technology (XIT) division is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Computing Systems Professional 3/4 for the XIT Classified Systems Services (XIT-CSS) group. XIT-CSS consists of approximately 85 professionals, technicians, and students. XIT division is responsible for the desktop and server support for computing environments at the Laboratory. The division is organized around field support groups that are focused on supporting unclassified and classified programmatic and mission support needs, and a technical services group that provides the enterprise level configuration management services for these computing environments.
Computing Systems Professional 3 ($94,100 - $155,700)
The successful candidate will work on a team supporting institutional and programmatic customers at locations across the laboratory, performing a wide variety of system administration activities for classified servers and workstations, including but not limited to:
S upporting Linux servers and desktop systems
Installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting servers, workstations, and network issues in a heterogeneous environment
Implementing and managing Linux solutions to support customer workstation requirements
Implement and manage servers, desktops, clients which include virtual environments
Resolving customer support issues and fulfilling requests through onsite support
Automating tasks using programming and scripting
Troubleshooting and resolving network issues including file shares and authentication
Communicating technical information to both technical and nontechnical personnel
Mentoring and training fellow team members
Practicing Information Architecture processes and standards
Implementing and supporting services such as CFEngine, Ansible and LDAP on Linux systems
Computing Systems Professional 4 ($103,500- $172,800)
In addition to the above, the successful candidate will perform the following, including but not limited to:
Planning, designing, documenting and implementing complex Linux solutions
Testing emerging technologies to ensure adherence to compliance requirements
Architecting, Configuring and managing storage and backup solutions
Architecting, implementing services such as CFEngine, Ansible and LDAP on large complex LANs
Implementing Security Technical Implementation Guide
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Advanced knowledge of Linux servers and desktops and related hardware including installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting services in a large complex heterogeneous environment.
Advanced knowledge of complex system architectures, network infrastructures, client server principles and ticket management systems.
Experience configuring large storage appliances such as NetApp, Nexsan or Dell EMC Isilon.
Experience writing and utilizing scripting languages to automate tasks.
Ability to satisfy customer requirements by resolving a wide range of issues in creative ways while directly contributing to the completion of milestones on multiple projects and/or specific programmatic objectives.
Additional Job Requirements for Computing Systems Professional 4
Expert Knowledge of Linux operating and related hardware, system architectures, network infrastructures, and client server principles.
Proficiency with project management methodologies.
Ability to translate technical terms to layperson's terms and present them to a variety of audiences, inside and outside of organization.
Ability to lead technical projects from concept to completion in support of Laboratory objectives and mission.
Advanced vendor certification (RHCSA, RHCE, VMware, NetApp, etc. )
Education/Experience at Computing Systems Professional 3:
Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, applicable advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable.
Education/Experience at Computing Systems Professional 4:
Position requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 12 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Post Graduate coursework may be expected.
Active DOE L or Q clearance, or equivalent, transferable clearance.
Knowledge of emerging computing technologies.
Experience administering Virtual Desktop Infrastructures (VDI), PCoIP Remote Workstations, Network booting with Linux- PXE.
Experience administering Microsoft Windows desktops and servers.
Experience securing Operating Systems using NIST and STIG cyber security frameworks.
