Los Alamos National Laboratory IT Manager 4 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This posting is for the group leader for the Core Services (CS) Group in the Network and Infrastructure Engineering (NIE) Division. The NIE-CS group is one of five groups in NIE. The group consists of four teams and manages several key and highly visible enterprise services including the Network and Datacenter Operations teams, a Server support team, Collaboration tools such as Microsoft O365, Teams, Mobility, SharePoint, and Citrix. The group is also very much involved with future directions in areas such as Cloud migrations.

As an important member of the NIE Management team, the successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will include the following:

Leadership

  • Organizational management, including:

  • budgeting, forecasting and financial management,

  • capability and staff development,

  • succession planning, personnel and salary management, and

  • ensuring a safe and secure workplace.

  • Oversight of all aspects of employee performance management for the members of the group.

  • Providing reliable, repeated, automated metrics for group operations

  • Integrating services with the eXperienceIT (XIT), Software Application Engineering (SAE), and Service Innovation (SI) divisions of ALDBUS

Technical Responsibilities

  • Email infrastructure and implementation

  • Windows and Linux server administration

  • Network Operations

  • Datacenter Operations

  • Application development understanding related to daily production processing

  • Communication in and out of our networks

  • Collaboration Tools administration (ex. Chat and IM, Desktop Video)

  • Mobility MDM administration

  • Other Collaboration Tools such as desktop publishing (Citrix) and SharePoint

Institutional Acumen

  • Manage the NIE-CS work packages, which requires demonstrated stewardship of financial resources, while working under clearly defined fiscal performance expectations as prescribed by the Laboratory’s monthly Business Stewardship Review (BSR) reporting procedure, and other OCIO fiscal reporting requirements.

Foster effective working relationships with Laboratory leaders, ALDBUS managers, and customers to ensure effective implementation of ALDBUS and NIE initiatives

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading a large team/organization in all aspects of organizational management, capability and staff development, succession planning, personnel and salary management, performance management and ensuring a safe and secure workplace.

  • Demonstrated leadership competencies including the ability to define and measure optimal performance in a network and infrastructure engineering organization, and to manage and maintain automated, data-driven metrics to demonstrate that measurements

  • Demonstrated experience in leading change in an organization through strategic planning and tactical operations management.

  • Demonstrated experience with collaboration across organizational boundaries and the ability to manage customer relationships in a positive manner

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external constituents.

  • Demonstrated ability to implement new network technologies in support of the changing network requirements of mission.

  • Knowledge of and experience with Datacenter operations.

  • Proven ability to manage 24X7 operations

Education/Experience:

  • Position requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum five years of related management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working with LANL’s OCIO and Los Alamos Field Office.

  • Demonstrated experience managing a complex budget.

  • Experience applying project management principles to set project scope, schedule, priorities, and deliverables.

  • Knowledge of and experience delivering core network services for a large organization. Includes underlying infrastructure and configurations.

  • Knowledge of configuration management tools/processes.

  • Demonstrated experience with external audits.

  • Knowledge of IT governance frameworks such as ITIL, DevSecOps, etc

  • Demonstrated experience in formal incident management.

  • Active DOE Q clearance.

Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. The Telework Pilot is in effect from Oct. 1, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2021, but may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year .

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
