Los Alamos National Laboratory Inventory/Production Control Specialist (Production Control Specialist 1/2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The High Explosives (HE) Fabrication and Disposition Group (M-8) in the Dynamic Experiments (M) Division manufactures high explosives and mock components for a diverse research and development customer base in support of present and future national security needs.

We are seeking a Production Control specialist to track and inventory all high explosives and classified components throughout the fabrication process.

This position will be filled at either the Production Control Specialist 1 or Production Control Specialist 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Production Control Specialist 1 ($53,500 - $82,800)

Oversee safe and compliant acquisition, receipt, storage, labeling, and electronic tracking and inventory of high explosives and classified components, consistent with LANL policies.

Periodically and systematically perform, document and report 100% accountability of high explosives and classified parts inventories using LANL-specific databases such as High Explosives Inventory Database (HEIDi) and Classified Parts Inventory Management System (CPIMS).

Production Control Specialist 2 ($64,400 - $102,300)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Production Control Specialist 2, will be required to:

Take initiative to resolve complex procurement, storage, and inventory problems with creative solutions that result in long-term benefit to the group and the broader organization.

Under limited direction and supervision, network with other support and customer organizations to develop and implement best practices that are relevant across multiple disciplines and customers.

Serve as a subject matter expert in storage and handling of hazardous materials.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience with detailed record keeping and organization, e.g. inventory, procurement, orderliness, cleanliness, inspection records, and material logs.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and follow-through to completion on multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines, with frequent interruptions, and changing priorities in a dynamic and fluid working environment. Demonstrated experience working independently and in a team environment to complete tasks

  • Demonstrated proficiency with typical business software, computer hardware, and use of computer systems. Specifically, spreadsheets, procurement systems, and inventory databases.

  • Demonstrated record of dependability, reliability, and commitment to the long-term needs of the job duties and programmatic goals of the organization.

  • Exceptional customer service demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of personnel, service providers, and customers.

Additional Job Requirements for the Production Control Specialist 2:

  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills across all levels of staff and management.

  • Demonstrated experience working with hazardous materials, including appropriate qualifications (ex: LANL HE Handler).

  • Established knowledge of and experience with LANL requirements and resources in the areas of explosive and waste management practices.

  • Demonstrated experience serving as a LANL Designated Procurement Representative or Purchasing Specialist/Administrator.

Education/Experience at Production Control Specialist 1: Position requires 2 years of related experience.

Education/Experience at Production Control Specialist 2: Position requires 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge in sensitive materials management and inventory, particularly high explosives and classified parts.

  • Experience working in an industrial setting managing inventory and supplies supporting a fabrication operation.

  • In-depth experience using and manipulating databases and electronic reporting tools such as FileMaker Pro and SharePoint.

  • A working knowledge of DOE Standard 1212 ( formerly the DOE explosives safety manual)

  • LANL HE Handler training/certificate and LANL HE Transporter training/certificate

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.
