Los Alamos National Laboratory Hydrodynamics and High Explosives Modeling Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Eulerian Codes Group (XCP-2) in the X-Computational Physics (XCP) Division is seeking motivated candidates for a postdoctoral appointment. The Eulerian Codes Group develops and maintains large scale, massively parallel multi-physics codes as part of the Advanced Scientific Computing (ASC) Program. This appointment will focus on development and implementation of a hydrodynamic method and high explosive model for high explosive safety applications. The successful candidate is expected to work in a team environment with computational scientists, theoreticians, and experimentalists, become familiar with production software carpentry practices, and publish results.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
For this role you must have knowledge and experience in continuum, fluid mechanics, or high explosives modeling.
Software Engineering & Design
You will need to have proficiency with modern Fortran, C, C++, or Python.
Teamwork is essential to the success of our group. As such you will need to have demonstrated the ability to function effectively in a team environment with a willingness to learn new skills and be flexible in work assignments. Position requires a Ph.D. in applied mathematics, physics, engineering, or a closely related field completed within the past five years or soon to be completed.
High Performance Computing
It would be great if you have experience with massively parallel numerical development and simulation, and experience deploying numerical algorithms to heterogeneous computing architectures.
Multiphysics Simulation Software
Candidates with experience in modeling highly-coupled physics experiments for compressible flows, numerical methods for solving systems of partial differential equations, or experience deploying numerical algorithms to future computing architectures will be given preference.
Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.
COVID Vaccine :
The COVID vaccine is mandatory for all Laboratory employees, on-site contractors, and on-site subcontractors unless granted an accommodation under applicable state or federal law. This requirement will apply to those working on-site, those teleworking, and all new hires.
