What You Will Do
The Los Alamos HIV Database at the T-6 group (Theoretical Biology and Biophysics) in the Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) invites applications for a limited-term position for data curation, to begin as early as February 2021. The candidate will become part of a team of scientists and scientific programmers who maintain, expand and do original research on HIV sequence and immunology databases and the associated websites. Full and part-time applicants will be considered.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
The job requires ability to work independently, read, understand, quickly process and summarize HIV patient data and genetic sequence metadata from very large volumes of published literature, an understanding of HIV genome sequencing methods, and experiments, and attention to detail in data entry.
Knowledge and understanding of virological experiments and assays
Understanding of HIV pathology, and genetic sequencing methods
Proficiency with Excel, CSV and raw text files
Understanding of database schemas
Proven ability to work with the large volumes of bibliographic material
Ability to extract patient and virus information from the literature and condense to short but informative summaries
Detail oriented, with ability to troubleshoot complex data and develop data QC methodsExperience writing Help files on technical subject matter
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Education/Experience :B.S. or M.S. in biology, immunology, virology, bioinformatics or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working knowledge of biological databases, especially GenBank
Familiarity with sequence alignments and analysis, blast, phylogenetics tools
Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.
