What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Technical Project Manager 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
The Experimental Device Engineering and Assembly Group (E-5) is Los Alamos National Laboratory’s (LANL) premier engineering organization focused on expert assembly of experimental weapon test devices. E-5 integrates a team of highly skilled and motivated engineers, technicians, parts management specialists, hazardous materials transportation specialists, and operations specialists to safely and securely deliver high-quality assemblies meeting customer requirements. E-5 is focused on supporting the experimental programs portfolio at LANL and at Nevada National Security Site. E-5’s mission is focused on the Weapon Program experimental assembly portfolio in support of the Lab’s Stockpile Stewardship mission.
Technical Project Manager 2 ($94,100 - $155,700)
The Hardware Tracking System Administrator integrates E-5 weapons materials software tools, business processes, and physical inventory systems for secure, accurate and efficient parts transactions, inventories, and engineering assemblies. The Hardware Tracking System Administrator leads implementation of requirements for associated processes, including: new parts management directives, transaction history improvements, compatibility enhancements with other LANL systems, and inventory tracking efficiency initiatives. The Hardware Tracking System Administrator is responsible for executing the classified and unclassified parts management processes for E-5.
Technical Project Manager 3 ($113,100 - $190,900)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at the Technical Project Manager 3 level the Hardware Tracking System Administrator will define procedural implementation between existing business processes, such as assembly operations, parts storage, parts inventory (classified, HE, rad), parts transportation, and software tools including the parts management systems. This position may serve as the group representative and develops viable solutions that address the mission needs, and may be delegated the authority to speak to external customers on behalf of the Laboratory and contractually obligate resources.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
A successful candidate will address their ability to provide resolutions appropriate technical procedures to integrate and standardize classified/unclassified parts management with software tools and storage systems; experience simplifying software systems required for all parts inventory systems through innovative solutions, such as minimization in the number of required systems, automated software transactions, non-manual inventory tools, etc.; and describe experience in the area of hardware and software interface and integration with a history of demonstrated success.
This position requires someone with the ability to implement technical parts management process with minimum supervision. A successful candidate will demonstrate their ability to communicate with line managers regarding resource assignments required for technical implementation and the capability to integrate parts management processes with overall E-5 weapons program and operational priorities.
Classified Parts Management
E-5 prides itself on providing professional, courteous, and competent customer service to all internal and external customers. As E-5’s primary liaison with the Institution regarding classified parts management systems, the candidate must be able to develop and lead implementation strategies of parts management enhancements in support of Weapons Division, particularly regarding software implementation. With a demonstrated ability to manage and lead implementation of Institutional classified and unclassified Parts Management initiatives as required by Weapons Program directives, a successful candidate will qualify their ability to implement those initiatives into E-5 business processes achieving increased quality, security, and efficiency. A successful candidate will show an advanced knowledge of classified parts management processes and tools within the NNSA National Security Enterprise.
With expert level experience planning and defining project scope through collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs) and senior project managers and working knowledge and experience in supporting tactical planning and execution of moderately large and/or complex technical projects, a successful candidate will account for their experience successfully coordinating multiple operations, balancing resources and priorities, and tracking a complex inventory.
A successful candidate will demonstrate experience supporting projects with requirements development, traceability, and requirements maintenance ; have an advanced ability to organize, prioritize, and take initiative and ownership of multiple and conflicting complex issues in a manner that fosters institutional values and customer satisfaction. With a demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team in a multi-discipline environment and interact effectively with a variety of organizations, a successful candidate will have experience in the delegation of project tasks while maintaining accountability with a demonstrated record of successfully leading cross-organizational teams to ensure products and/or services are delivered within budget and on schedule.
A successful candidate will need excellent written and oral communication (technical writing and presentations). With strong interpersonal, presentation, and written skills, a successful candidate will demonstrate excellence through examples of relationships built, briefings, and presentations.

To qualify for the TPM3 level, a successful candidate will have wide-ranging experience in effectively developing and integrating solutions to complex issues.
This position requires someone with the ability to lead parts management process technical implementation. A successful candidate will demonstrate their ability to effectively negotiate with line managers regarding resource assignments required for technical implementation and the capability to integrate parts management processes with overall E-5 weapons program and operational priorities.
This position requires someone with Expert-level experience in developing and nurturing effective working relationships with internal and external customers, supporting customers with programmatic planning, and effective negotiation with line managers regarding resource assignments required for technical implementation. Demonstrated behavior utilizing tact, diplomacy, discretion, and attention to detail.
Supply Chain Management
A successful candidates will show an expert-level knowledge using supply chain processes and procedures including manufacturing planning, demand, and replenishment processes; experience working with ARIBA, certification procurements, quality procurements, and calibration processing; and an advanced knowledge of classified parts management processes and tools within the NNSA National Security Enterprise.
Ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance
Education/Experience at Technical Project Manager 2
Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at Technical Project Manager 3
Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. A Project Management Institute certification is desired for this level.
An ideal candidate will demonstrate experience with continuous improvement (CI) efforts, such as Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other methodologies.
An ideal candidate will speak to their ability to develop and effectively deliver supporting training to parts management system end-user; experience developing and nurturing internal LANL customer relations; an ability to interact with all levels of personnel, building trust, gaining consensus, and in resolving conflicts, technical and interpersonal.
An active Q clearance or equivalent is highly desirable.
