Los Alamos National Laboratory Fuel Cells Post Masters Student in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The successful candidate will work as part of the Fuel Cell Team at Los Alamos National Laboratory on a variety of fuel cell related projects. The Fuel Cell Team develops novel materials and components for polymer electrolyte fuel cells and water electrolyzers in support of the Laboratory’s energy security missions. This is a 1-year position intended for students who want to develop research skills prior to applying to grad school, and who want to learn about career opportunities at LANL.

Job activities will include:

  • Perform research on fuel cell or electrolyzer projects

  • Perform electrochemical testing of fuel cells/electrolyzers

  • Fabricate electrodes for fuel cells and electrolyzers

  • Characterize electrodes

  • Document and present results

The position is located in Los Alamos, NM.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Fluent in common software packages including Excel, Word, PowerPoint

  • Experience with safe handling of hazardous chemicals

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Capability to work and communicate effectively within a team.

Education/Experience :Master’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, chemistry, or related field completed in the last 3 years and have not been accepted to another master's program or Ph.D. program.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a laboratory in a research and development environment

  • Ability to identify and locate problems with equipment and electronics

  • Experience with pressurized gas systems

  • Ability to conduct basic design of systems and mechanical components

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
