Los Alamos National Laboratory Fire Protection Maintenance (Technical Project Manager 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking an experienced fire protection professional to fill the Fire

Protection Maintenance/Technical Project Management Lead role for the Maintenance Programs group. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager for MSS‐MP, the selected candidate will provide technical guidance and expertise regarding fire alarm, fire suppression and special hazard system installation, maintenance and repairs. As the Fire Protection Maintenance/Technical Project Management Lead, you will assist with fire protection systems across the laboratory this includes maintaining systems in accordance with applicable codes, standards, Laboratory policies and manufacturer recommendations. You will also provide expertise with review and revision of institutional fire protection documents. Your primary responsibility will be to be to lead the LANL Replacement In Kind (RIK) fire protection program. Lead roles will include interacting with multiple entities across the laboratory including but not limited to engineering, fire alarm vendors, maintenance crews, building representatives and managers. As the lead, you will be expected to execute yearly budgets effectively and efficiently, maintain schedules and lead projects from start to finish. You will lead Fire Protection Maintenance projects ranging from replacement of antiquated fire alarms, fire suppression systems and other related fire protection replacements.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical Exper ti se

In depth knowledge of fire protection specific NFPA Codes and Standards including but not limited to

NFPA 10, 25, 72, 2001, IBC and IEBC; extensive knowledge of regulations affecting maintenance and site services used in the DoE or Federal government and commercial industry; demonstrated experience in fire protection maintenance, inspection and testing including the following systems and equipment: fire alarm, fire suppression, special hazard and life safety equipment.

Collabora ti on and Problem Solving

Demonstrated experience researching, analyzing and resolving facility fire protection system issues independently and in a team. Strong Robust conflict resolution skills, with the ability to interact effectively, build trust, and gain consensus with all levels of internal or external employees is required.

Program Coordina ti on

Experience establishing, maintaining and coordinating Fire Protection Maintenance projects; must have the ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.

Communica ti on

Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated experience in technical writing, preparing technical reports and documents, and developing and presenting verbal presentations to small groups.

Training/Certifications:

The ability to obtain Project Management PMP or equivalent trainings/certifications.

Education/Experience :

Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation

Desired Qualifications:

  • Active DOE Q‐Clearance

  • Manufacturer specific fire alarm panel training/certifications

  • Additional certifications in Special Hazard Equipment

  • Experience in project management

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
