Los Alamos National Laboratory Export Control Analyst 1 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Export Control at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is unlike any export control position in the country. As an Export Control Analyst the incumbent will work with a variety of organizations and vast topics facilitating great science and research efforts at the Laboratory. Examples include supporting the SuperCam instrument on the Mars Rover 2020; the Medical Radioisotope Program and global scientific research. You will evaluate export requirements and prepare export documentation for everything from biological cells to equipment too large to move via air.

The selected candidate will maneuver through the multifaceted regulatory world of export control. You will become a subject matter expert partnering with internal stakeholders who conduct research, collaborate with global colleagues, and safeguard the world on a daily basis. Learn how to research items and technologies of all types in order to make export regulatory determinations. The selected candidate will also learn how to request export licenses and collaborate with freight forwarders to move equipment in and out of the U.S.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of export regulations such as ITAR, EAR, NRC.

  • Experience interpreting the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).

  • Demonstrated customer service skills with an ability to interact professionally with all levels of employees, managers, external contacts, visitors, and sponsors.

  • Demonstrated experience working as a team member in a team environment as well as working effectively independently.

  • Demonstrated experience resolving a variety of moderately complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires review of a variety of factors.

  • Demonstrated experience of software applications such as MS Access, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience making independent decisions and researching, analyzing, and resolving complex problems both independently and as a team member.

  • Knowledge of Los Alamos National Laboratory programs and mission sets.

  • Demonstrated experience using Oracle software applications.

Education:Typically requires anAssociate’s degree in security, business, or other related field and two years’ experience in export control, importing or related field.

Where You Will Work

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.

The Export Control Team's mission (SAFE-IP) is to provide expertise and training to ensure institutional compliance with US federal export control regulations in support of LANL's mission and programs with foreign involvement. Along with providing accurate and timely export control services for commodities to be shipped, information or software to be shared, and defense services to be performed on and off site.

Export Control regulations change along with the political world and advances in technology. The Export Control Team reviews agreements, invention disclosures, foreign visits, Lab-developed software codes and other international activities to ensure compliance in support of the Lab’s mission. The Team also coordinates logistics for all commercial export shipments. This position has great potential for job growth for someone desiring a career that is never dull. We work closely with the Lab’s deployed security, the Feynman Center for Innovation and other internal organizations in addition to many outside agencies, vendors, and export control staff at DOE/NNSA sites.
