What You Will Do
The EPC-CP Group, Water Quality Team provides institutional technical leadership and direction to line organizations for compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and executive orders, including legal agreements, orders, and directives.
Environmental Sampling Technician 3 ($51,100.00-$79,100.00)
Reports to and receives direction from the Water Quality Team Leader and Group Management.
Provides sampling and technical support to the Water Quality and Storm Water Teams related to New Mexico Environment Department’s (NMED) Groundwater Discharge Plans (GWDP), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit Programs for outfalls and storm water discharges, and other water quality regulations.
Works with staff and management throughout the Laboratory to ensure compliance sampling, monitoring and reporting are conducted in accordance with NPDES self-monitoring permit requirements and GWDPs.
Serves as a point of contact for the NPDES Self-Monitoring Programs.
Calibration of instruments utilizing proper test standards & equipment.
Person-in-charge responsibilities for NPDES outfall, storm water and GWDP sampling activities.
A significant portion of sampling support activities will be conducted outdoors under varying weather conditions.
Field operation of automated samplers including sampler inspection and maintenance and retrieval and processing of water quality samples.
Perform visual inspections of storm water samples at NPDES permitted outfalls in accordance with permit requirements.
Complete regulatory documentation utilizing hand-held mobile devices.
Install and remove sampling equipment from field locations at the beginning and end of sampling seasons.
Prepare Integrated Work Documents for sampling activities.
Perform equipment calibration.
Maintain sampling equipment, containers, chemicals, and reagents for multiple programs in a safe and orderly condition.
Generate and maintain defensible compliance documentation and records (NPDES sampling records, log books, Sample Collection Chain or Custodies, calibration checks, etc.)
Participate in and demonstrate analytical proficiency with the annual NPDES DMR-QA Study.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated experience in maintaining records according to established protocols and regulatory requirements and experience in surface water, groundwater and/or storm water quality compliance programs.
Broad experience in conducting environmental sampling in compliance with established standard operating procedures, quality assurance procedures, and other associated protocols.
Demonstrated skills in the installation, operation, and maintenance of environmental monitoring instruments and equipment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment, and demonstrated ability to respond to program requirements and changing priorities in a timely manner.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and two to four years of experience in environmental field work, including sampling gained through training in specific field operations. A technical institute graduate or associate's degree may be preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
(If possible but not required) Working knowledge of Laboratory organizational structure, technical areas, and facilities.
Experience preparing correspondence and reports.
Experience with environmental management systems. In particular, experience inputting information and generating reports.
Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner with managers, peers, customers, and other personnel.

for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
