What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Engineering Technologist 2/Engineering Technologist 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Engineering Technologist 2 ($80,100-131,000)

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties of this position in the areas of system and facility configuration management and technical baseline management, including:

  • Following, reviewing, and updating detailed technical procedures

  • Supporting configuration management

  • Defining and controlling system and facility modifications

  • Assisting in the implementation of the facility safety basis

  • Maintaining system and facility technical baselines

  • Monitoring, tracking, and trending of major systems

  • Defining maintenance requirements

  • Troubleshooting; root cause analysis

  • Preparing detailed corrective maintenance instructions for complex or critical systems

  • Implementing LANL’s Conduct of Engineering (COE) Program

  • Performing facility and system walk downs

Engineering Technologist 3($87,800-144,800)In addition to the duties outlined above, the (higher level title) will be required to:

  • Provide project support. Reviews project controls, cost estimates, quantity takeoffs, and forecasts and change orders

  • Assume a lead role over other staff or project subgroups for completing specific tasks.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated technical experience in design engineering or system engineering for nuclear or industrial facility operations

  • Demonstrated working experience with industry codes and standards

  • Demonstrated working experience in engineering including design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical baseline maintenance

  • Demonstrated experience with modification definition and control

  • Must have the ability to communicate well, both written and verbally

  • Experience with maintenance testing/ acceptance testing

Additional Job Requirements for Engineering Technologist 3: In addition to the minimum job skills outlined for the Engineering Technologist 2 position, the skills listed below are minimum job skills for the Engineering Technologist 3 position:

  • Extensive knowledge of engineering systems and calculations, applications of engineering methods and technology aided engineering tools to conventional and non-conventional facility and operations-based engineering problems

  • Engineered equivalency analysis

  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods

  • Expert knowledge of engineering maintenance techniques and construction methods

  • Demonstrated expert-level experience in engineering including design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical baseline maintenance

  • Minimum 6+ years of related work experience

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of DOE and LANL standards applicable to facility design, operation, and maintenance

  • Experience in a nuclear facility

  • Awareness of LANL Quality Policies and Procedures

  • Active DOE Q Clearance

Education required at either level:

  • Technical associate’s degree (bachelor’s degree preferred)

  • At least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified

Where You Will Work

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is primarily responsible for monitoring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile and conducting research into new defense programs.
