Los Alamos National Laboratory Engineering Technologist 2/3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Engineer Technologist 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Engineering Technologist 2: ($80,100-131,000)

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties of this position in the areas of software configuration management, and technical baseline management, including but not necessarily limited to:

  • Electrical power system analysis and design

  • Implementation of consensus codes and standards like NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, and IEEE

  • Facility modifications, system upgrades

  • Perform short circuit, coordination, load flow, and arc flash studies using SKM software

  • Configuration management support and technical baseline maintenance

  • Monitoring, tracking, and trending of major systems

  • Troubleshooting; root cause analysis

  • Perform Electrical Safety Officer (ESO) function

  • Perform facility system walk downs as required

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated sound technical experience in design engineering or system engineering for industrial facility operations

  • Demonstrated working experience with industry codes and standards

  • Demonstrated working experience in engineering including design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical baseline maintenance

  • Demonstrated experience with modification definition and control

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well, both written and verbally

  • High proficiency with personal computers

  • Experienced in the use of EXCEL to manage and analyze data

  • Experience with maintenance testing/ acceptance testing

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of DOE and LANL standards applicable to facility design, operation, and maintenance

  • Experience with SKM short circuit analysis software

  • Experience with Autocad drafting software

  • Knowledge of LANL Quality Policies and Procedures

Education:Technology or college bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Minimum of 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of DOE and LANL standards applicable to facility design, operation, and maintenance

  • Experience with SKM short circuit analysis software

  • Experience with Autocad drafting software

  • Knowledge of LANL Quality Policies and Procedures

Engineer Technologist 3: ($87,800-144,800)

In addition to the requirements outlined above, this position include:

  • Technical mentoring of junior engineers and technologists

  • Leading, developing, facility modifications, system upgrades

  • Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory and DOE/NNSA complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to System Engineering such as DOE 0 420.1 C, and DOE STD-1073

  • Expert knowledge of IBC, NEC, and IEEE

  • 6-8 years of related work experience

Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.

Where You Will Work

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is primarily responsible for monitoring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile and conducting research into new defense programs. LANSCE Facility Operations Division (LFO-DO) provides operations, engineering, maintenance, and ESH&Q; support for TA-53 organizations and facilities. The primary mission of TA-53 is to operate the LANSCE accelerator facility, which provides the scientific community with intense sources of neutrons and protons. The TA-53 community is also engaged in other R&D; in support of the Laboratory’s weapons, global security, and other scientific missions

The Engineering Technologist (ET) position is assigned to the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) ES-LFO Group responsible for plant engineering services and implementation of the Conduct of Engineering (CoE) program implementation at LANSCE.
