Los Alamos National Laboratory Engineering Operations & Physics Group Leader (R&D Manager 4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
Reporting to the J Division Leader, the J-6 Group Leader will be responsible for leading the engineering, operations, and physics to maintain and advance the Dual-Axis Radiographic Hydrodynamic Test (DARHT) Facility. The group is directly responsible for the two accelerators, programmatic equipment and test stands necessary to support hydrodynamic tests at DARHT.In addition to the technical leadership, the group leader is responsible for managing the personnel within the group, including performance management, career growth, and recruiting to advance DARHT.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Broad Technical Foundation
Demonstrated ability to address a wide range of technical challenges. Examples include; pulsed power, plasma physics, power distribution, grounding, controls, vacuum systems, pneumatics, heat transfer, and/or fluid dynamics.
Demonstrated ability to bring a diverse group of people together to achieve a common goal on complex technical problems requiring operational excellence.
Conduct of Engineering and/or Operations
Experience executing work or projects using the formality of operations principles.
Management & Leadership Experience
Demonstrated ability to lead a balanced technical and operational project, program, or organization with significant risks and high consequence for failure.
Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in science or engineering. An advanced degree in engineering, physics or related technical field is highly desirable.
Linear Induction Accelerators and/or Pulsed Power Systems
Familiarity with Linear Induction Accelerator design and principles of operation.
Familiarity with dynamic radiographic technology from the source to detector.
US Nuclear Weapons Experience
Familiarity with the entire compendium of deployed US nuclear weapons and US hydrotest experience.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served at least one year of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
