What You Will Do
As a Manager, you will help establish, manage, oversee, and plan the assigned activities/systems of the GloveboxSystems Engineering Team within the TA-55 Systems Engineering Group and ensure that the technical aspects are in full conformance with approved national consensus codes, LANL Conduct of Engineering, and sound engineering judgement. The manager will have full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating tasks assigned to the team. The team will be responsible for primarily balance of plant and process support systems.
An important aspect of this position will be hiring, development, and evaluation of personnel to ensure engineering and laboratory requirements are met. The manager will play an integral part in the development and administration of budgets, schedules, and performance standards for the organizational unit and its assigned employees.
Specifically, the selected candidate will support management of the ES-55 Glovebox Systems Team as one of the TA-55 Team First Line Managers (FLM). As a FLM, you will report to the ES-55 Systems Engineering Group Leader and will be responsible for work related to programmatic, maintenance and capital projects within the TA-55 Protective Area for the team scope described above. The job will also include qualification as a Facility Design Authority Representative (FDAR) and serve at the governing authority over design projects as assigned. This role ensures, among other things, design requirements are specified and implemented in designs and personnel/disciplines are assigned for technical reviews.

This position requires a professional that understands and is able to implement Integrated Safety Management (ISM) responsibilities for their organization, including but not limited to integrating safety into every task, pausing/stopping work, modeling exemplary behavior, fostering open communication, engaging workers in the field, rewarding positive behavior and addressing deficiencies through accountability. Integrated Safety Management (worker health and safety, environment, security, and quality) is a primary responsibility for all Laboratory employees and managers.
In doing so, you must demonstrate with proven ability to: provide guidance and interpretation on policies and programs; preparing and tracking/managing budgets; define and recommend cross-organizational strategy, tactics, and operational objectives; and develop specific short-term and long-range plans, and monitor such plans progress to assure long-term objectives are attained and customer requirements are met
In addition to the above, you must demonstrate:
Full technical knowledge and experience in operating systems - both nuclear and non-nuclear systems and configuration management.
Proficient experience in facility operations and systems engineering processes.
Demonstrated experience in Conduct of Engineering processes.
Excellent interpersonal skills in both verbal and written communications and the ability to effectively communicate to all levels of management and staff.
Broad knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards, engineering procedures, and project controls and design criteria in all engineering disciplines with extra emphasis placed on American Glovebox Society (AGS) standards.
Demonstrated team building capability and the ability to resolve technical and personnel conflicts.
Demonstrated capability in successfully managing customer relationships. Proficient in negotiation for dealing with Laboratory customers/representatives.
Experience with financial management and business plan development.
Coaching and mentoring experience.
Performance management experience.
Education/Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and five (5) years of relevant experience implementing the requirements described above.
Broad knowledge of Laboratory administrative practices and systems.
Knowledge of DOE-420.1A, 1C, DOE STD 1189 requirements.
Familiarity with DOE-STD-3009-2014 and DOE-STD-1104-2016
Direct experience with implementing AGS standards at LANL. Proficient with NQA-1 level of quality rigor.
Nuclear facility operations experience within the defense complex.
Working overtime or irregular schedule as required
Working off-shift as required
Work near sources of ionizing radiation
Wearing PPE required for entry into radiologically controlled areas.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
