Los Alamos National Laboratory Electrical/Mechanical Tec (Engineered System Tecs 4/5) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Engineered Systems Tec 4/ 5 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The successful candidate will perform maintenance activities supporting programmatic operations as well as providing technical assistance to the Facility Operation Division, FOD. Work assignments will include; Monitor equipment efficiencies, including the determination of functional problems with test equipment and diagnostic tools, Follow prescribed procedures, locate and diagnose failures or malfunctions, replace defective components, and perform basic/intermediate troubleshooting, Prepare required installation and/or repair documentation and maintain appropriate maintenance and history logs within the assigned work package, Understand and adhere to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to installation, repair, and maintenance while meeting quality specifications and established requirements. Assist the organization in achieving safe, effective, and compliant operations, preventing pollution, minimizing waste and conserving resources.

Engineered Systems Tec 4 $64,400 - $102,300

You will work as a member of the Technical Area 55 Division, TA55-DO, Process Maintenance and Decontamination Services Group, TA55-PMDS, Programmatic Maintenance Team for PF-4 and RLUOB. The Programmatic Maintenance Team is responsible for performing maintenance on programmatic equipment and glovebox support systems to support program deliverables for PT and AMPP per Facility Service Requests (FSRs) or other methods. You will primarily support TA55-PMDS Programmatic Maintenance activities and report to First Line Manager for preparing, reviewing and working against approved IWDs specific to task and location. You will provide mentoring for junior technicians. You will support the TA55-PMDS Group responsible for corrective and preventative maintenance of programmatic equipment, as well as the decommissioning and demolition of process equipment used in the plutonium facility at TA-55, RLUOB, and CMR.

Engineered Systems Tec 5 $71,000-$112,700

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level applicant will be responsible for:

Performing systematic diagnostic of programmatic equipment by utilizing tooling specific to, i.e., rotating equipment, heat generating equipment and electrical diagnostics. Help in the development of new design modification to both programmatic process equipment and facility related systems. Provide assistance to engineering design input and provide innovative ideas to process equipment and Safety Significant Systems such as; glovebox enclosures and glovebox doors. Candidate will also assist in supporting Process System Engineers in performing PM’s as well as establishing specific PM surveillance’s during the process maintenance plan development. Applicants must have demonstrate expert knowledge of the following; experience meeting scheduling and deliverables for multiple concurrent project with varying range of priorities, ability to recognize technical problems, analysis and testing to generate suitable solutions and affectively document and communicate results, expert knowledge of and experience in using systematic approach to problem solving, Knowledge and familiarity with engineering drawings and procedures and Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, as well as effectively as part of a team in a multi-discipline environment and interact effectively with a variety of organizations.

Candidate must show expertise and independently applies knowledge and skills in the operation and use of diagnostic equipment and measuring devices commonly employed in troubleshooting.

Applies standard work methods and procedures to perform troubleshooting and repairs of equipment and components of high complexity.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Installation: Exhibit’s advanced ability to independently apply developing knowledge and skills with installation, testing, repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment or systems.

Electrical Systems: Extensive experience with multiple mechanical systems or electrical systems.

Extensive experience with electrical systems from 120V to 480V. Extensive experience in electrical equipment installations.

Interpretation of Drawings: Extensive experience reading and understanding mechanical, electrical and schematics. Extensive experience reading and understanding written or verbal instructions, drawings, layouts and other related specifications.

Equipment: Extensive experience in replacing and repairing mechanical components on a wide variety of equipment. Extensive experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting programmatic equipment and performance assurance. Ability to use a variety of typical bench top equipment and tools.

Equipment/Systems: Advanced proficiency to interpret and apply comprehensive knowledge and practical understanding of equipment and systems theory and principles.

Teams: Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Hazardous Materials: Ability to work with radioactive and hazardous materials.

Work Procedures: Ability to follow directions that are very specific and detailed and can execute work to established procedures for routine work.

Education/Experience at Engineered Systems Tec 4 level: Position require an Associates’ Degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, additional training and/or certification may be expected.

Education/Experience at Engineered Systems Tec 5 level: Position requires an Associate’s Degree in a related field and 7 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, additional training and/or certification may be expected.

Qualification: DOE 426.2 Education Requirement: This position requires a High School diploma.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with 12v, DC signaling as well as 120v-480v,3 phase electrical systems

  • Experience with working services such as inert gas and vacuum systems

  • Experience writing or contributing to Integrated Work Document, Detailed Operating Procedures, or other work planning documents

  • Experience with MS Office applications

  • Experience with a Computer Maintenance Management System, CMMS
