Los Alamos National Laboratory Digitization Project Manager (Technical Project Manager 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is looking for an exceptional Project Manager to oversee the digitization of classified and unclassified materials.

The Weapons Research Services-Secure Information Services (WRS-SIS) Digitization Project Manager will be responsible for implementing the digitization workflow, streamlining the digitization processes, assigning and tracking day-to-day activities for the team, and working with the weapons production organization customers at the Radiological Laboratory/Utility/Office Building (RLUOB), to ensure priorities and requirements are being met.

The Digitization Project Manager will administer work to the team including: sorting and prioritizing documents and media, indexing, preparing documents for scanning, scanning, quality assurance, formatting files, entering metadata, and uploading to the digital classified repository. Other duties include providing support to locate and extricate important information as one-off requests for technical customers.

This individual will be working as the on-site leader and will be administering work to the team and working in a semi-autonomous manner.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:


For this role, you will need experience in a leadership role developing goals, objectives, and administering work to a team. This includes experience supervising, mentoring and evaluating work, directly and through subordinates managing multiple tasks, often with competing deadlines.

Technical Knowledge:

You will also need experience and knowledge of digitization technology. This position will require experience in developing process improvements to facilitate the advancement of digitization projects. This includes knowledge of library sciences, such as indexing, cataloging, formatting files, and organization of documents. You must also be familiar with using online document repositories and metadata extraction from documents. In addition, you must have experience utilizing project management principles and ability to manage the execution of work under strict/competing deadlines with changing priorities, and excellent attention to detail and organization skills.

Customer Relations:

At this level, you must have experience in customer-focused communication and relations. You must have experience handling sensitive situations, using sound and independent judgment. Support customer requests, priorities and deadlines. This includes experience developing clear, concise, and informative reports, presentations, correspondence, and other written materials to customers and management.


To succeed in this position you must have experience in successfully working with internal and external stakeholders. It is essential that you have the ability to serve as the primary interface between customers, executing organizations, and line management for projects. This includes the ability to, or experience interacting effectively with all levels of personnel, building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts. You must have experience providing excellent customer-focused communication and interpersonal skills.

Education/Experience : Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. A Project Management Institute certification is preferred for this level. A Masters in Library Science (MLS) or Masters in Library Information (MLIS) is highly desired.

Desired Qualifications:

LANL Familiarity:

Familiarity and understanding of the weapons program within LANL, along with experience working on classified networks.

Business Processes:

Experience with business processes such as budgeting, planning, scheduling, data collection, and analysis. Experience in process improvement.


Active DOE “Q” Clearance

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
