What You Will Do
The Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) in the Materials Physics and Applications Division (MPA-CINT)at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking outstanding candidates forthe position of Deputy Group Leader (DGL). The DGL will assist the Group Leader in providing technical leadership and management for MPA-CINT. The DGL will also be responsible for certain areas of program management and user community outreach. MPA-CINT currently has 85 employees including 65 technical and postdoctoral staff members and a budget of around $30M/yr.
The Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies is a national user facility funded bythe DOE Office of Science to provide research capabilities in nanoscience to aworldwide community of users. The MPA-CINT group stewards the CINTGateway facility at LANL, which together with the Core facility at SandiaNational Laboratory form the entire CINT user facility. Scientificthrusts in CINT include: Nanophotonics and Optical Nanomaterials; QuantumMaterials Systems; Soft, Biological and Composite Nanomaterials; and In-SituCharacterization and Nanomechanics. The Deputy Group leader's duties (shared with the Group Leader) will be distributed among the following activities:
Ensuring the overall quality and effectiveness of the Center in research and developmentand dedication to our mission as an Office of Science national user facility.
Ensuringa safe, secure, and compliant workplace for group employees and users, and ensuring adherence to Laboratory policy within the Center.
Aggressive pursuit of Laboratory and Division ES&H, Integrated Safety Management, andAA/EEO/Diversity objectives.
Promoting effective partnering and performance within the Center leadership team andsupport staff to maximize overall productivity.
Oversight of all aspects of group financial and human resource management.
Strategic and tactical planning in conjunction with the Division Leader and the division leadership council that leverages the technical strengths and capabilities in the Center for the overall success of the division and directorate.
Supporting the Group Leader in maintaining and evolving a sound technical vision that leverages the balance of existing programs.
Support the development of new programs, with an emphasis on additional funding, based on innovative combinations of the group's and Center's thrusts and core competencies in response to the laboratory's and national needs.
CINT Program Management and UserCommunity Outreach
Preparing monthly reports for the Office of Basic Energy Sciences, the CINT programsponsor
Publication tracking using citation indexing databases
Managing scientific content on the CINT program website to communicate scientific capabilities and access modes to users
Analyzing publication metrics and national award outcomes to strategically target potential CINT users
Tracking outreach metrics and developing appropriate baselines for comparison; PromotingCINT and the NSRCs at national meeting exhibitions
Co-organizing annual technical conferences, including procuring sponsorship, managing conference materials, and budget management
Overseeing online content for program sponsors and user community; including, science highlights.
Building and nurturing a strategic partnership between the two host laboratory partners(LANL and SNL)
Support for this position is at 1 FTE with effort roughly split between group management and program management/outreach.

Education: Minimum requirement is a bachelor’s degree in science or engineering.APh.D.degreeinafield relatedto MPA-CINT's core scienceareas(materials science, chemistry,physics, biology, electrical ormechanicalengineering) is strongly preferred
