What You Will Do

The Deployed Security Group’s (SEO-DS) mission is to deploy security officers to Laboratory line and programmatic organizations to ensure implementation of Integrated Safeguards and Security Management. This security specialist performs a full range of security functions including, but not limited to, risk assessments, programmatic planning, security management, causal analysis, and security deficiency management. He/she assesses the scope of work in the organization assigned, determines risks, threats and vulnerabilities, and coordinates and implements security risk mitigation strategies on behalf of responsible line managers. He/she acts as the organization’s principal subject matter expert for Safeguards and Security Program Management, Information Security, Personnel Security, Protection Program Operations, and where applicable, Materials Control and Accountability.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more of the following security areas: project planning and management, program management, personnel security, access control, classified matter protection and control, physical security, foreign visits and assignments, protection program operations, or cyber security, and vulnerability assessments.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with security & safeguards functions such as, inquiries, identification of vulnerabilities, and assessment of risks.

  • Demonstrated experience building strong working relationships with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated experience solving problems at the division and associate director-levels, as well as with safeguard and security core oversight.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting research, investigating alternatives, and recommending solutions on problems affecting security & safeguards.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting security & safeguards self-assessments, audits, inspections, causal analysis, and corrective actions.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in recommending and coordinating the acquisition, installation or replacement of equipment designed to increase efficiency of security & safeguards operations.

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills including experience developing and presenting briefings and training managers and employees.

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of DOE Orders and LANL requirements as related to Safeguards and Security Programs – specifically physical security.

  • Prior experience interacting with DOE staff and auditors.

  • Knowledge and/or experience with C/EES security projects and programs.

  • Knowledge of Vault/Vault-Type Room.

  • Knowledge of exhibit G’s.

  • Knowledge of prohibited and controlled articles.

  • Knowledge of cyber requirements.

  • Specialized knowledge and experience with security & safeguards requirements at LANL, especially regarding ADE.

  • Knowledge and experience writing security plans.

Education:Position requires aBachelor’s degree in Security, Law Enforcement, or related field and 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Additional consideration may be given to professionally recognized training and certifications in related fields.

As a deployed security specialist, the selected candidate will be assigned to support either the Associate Directorate for Engineering (ADE) or Principal Associate Directorate for Weapons Programs (PADWP) and associated operations, divisions, and groups within either ADE or PADWP.
