What You Will Do

The selected candidate will work on the network security architecture as a member of the NIE-ESS network and computer security teams, who are responsible for computer security incident response, penetration testing, vulnerability scanning and mitigation, security tool development and support, and LANL’s network security architecture.

This position will be filled at either the Cybersecurity Technical Staff 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Cybersecurity Technical Staff 1 ($72,500 - $118,200)

  • Participates in the planning, research, and design of a robust security architecture for the LANL IT enterprise.

  • Evaluates new tools and techniques, and applies solutions to cyber security issues.

  • Assists in the design, development, modification, configuration, and debugging of cyber protections and analysis tools.

Cybersecurity Technical Staff 2 ($80,100 - $131,000)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Cybersecurity Technical Staff 2 will be expected to:

  • Work on more complex cyber security issues and propose effective solutions.

  • Contribute to establishing direction and milestones for the cybersecurity architecture and to designing, developing, modifying, and debugging cyber protections and analysis tools.

  • Interact with senior internal and external personnel; coordinate and collaborate with personnel from NNSA and other Laboratories.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Cybersecurity Technical Staff 1:

  • Knowledge of and experience with the cyber security environment, including cyber security concepts, compliance, and certification.

  • Knowledge of and experience with the threat landscape including vulnerabilities, threats, and exposures.

  • Knowledge of and experience with cyber security protections, software, and services.

  • Strong analytical, documentation, communication, and teaming skills.

Additional Job Requirements for Cybersecurity Technical Staff 2:

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Cybersecurity Technical Staff 2 level requires:

  • Thorough knowledge of and experience with all aspects of the cyber security environment.

  • Thorough technical knowledge of classic and contemporary cyber threats and vulnerabilities and cyber security protections, software, and services.

  • Thorough knowledge and experience with network protocols, defense architectures, and security controls.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of WAFs, IDS/IPS, ADCs, NGFWs, or other enterprise-grade security solutions.

  • Experience with enterprise-grade tools for event analysis and correlation.

  • Experience with automated analysis and scripting with Python, Perl or similar languages.

  • Knowledge of security and compliance for federal agencies

  • Experience with application security practices and software development lifecycle

  • Advanced knowledge of security frameworks and project management methodologies.

Education:

  • Cybersecurity Technical Staff 1 typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a technical field and a minimum of 2 years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Cybersecurity Technical Staff 2 typically requires a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in a technical field and a minimum of 4 years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level post graduate work may be expected
