Los Alamos National Laboratory Craft Superintendent (Superintendent 1) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for an entry level Superintendent who is ready to be responsible for oversight and management of Collective Bargaining Agreements for Laborers & Masons and one for Teamsters & Operating Engineers and serve as the backup for the other. As a Logistics Superintendent, you will be a part of highly creative, diverse, fast-paced, efficient team tasked with tackling the most fascinating and challenging problems in our Laboratories facilities.
The Craft Superintendent position requires a close working relationship with Labor Relations on recruitment, oversee and manage the deployment and dispatching of approximately 200 craft personnel to Maintenance, Construction and FOD’s. The candidate will ensure that craft work is executed per the current collective bargaining agreements (CBA’s) and jurisdictional settlements. The Craft Superintendent must be knowledgeable in their particular trades and CBA’s. Craft deployments may be seasonal in duration or by emergent work priorities. Understanding the skill sets and qualifications of each craft type is essential to this position. This knowledge encompasses the general work skills, tasks, materials and tools utilized to perform the particular trade. The candidate will manage the development of training plans and training for all their craft personnel. This training encompasses technical, safety, environmental and site specific qualifications and work skill requirements. Will work closely with the LOG-HERG Group Leader, Work Execution Manger and Occupational Medicine to manage worker injuries and restricted duty cases and Labor Relations. Will work as part of a team to develop long range manpower schedules and implement schedule delivery in a rapidly changing environment. Responsible for the weekly Logistics Craft manpower schedules and craft counts. Assist with establishing work priorities as needed. Develop processes for the effective deployment of craft to maximize efficiency and productivity. Superintendent’s will also be responsible for maintaining required safety and security training, assuring safety and security compliance, and making safety and security an integral part of every task; to include taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.

Experience directing work and some understanding of collective bargaining agreements.
Experience in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and determining actions to be performed.
Ability to learn and utilize a computerized work management system in maintaining and tracking job activities.
An understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures.
Ability to execute maintenance work activities, to include: heavy equipment operations, roads and grounds maintenance and snow removal operations.
Demonstrated experience in multitasking, customer service, and conflict management.
Education/Experience: Position requires 5 years of relevant experience.
Experience directing work and understanding of collective union bargaining agreements.
Applicant should display a working knowledge and/or experience working in an operating hazardous facility.
Knowledge of environmental laws, regulations and requirements.
Demonstrated ability to learn and utilize a computerized work management system in maintaining and tracking job activities.
Demonstrated skill in the preparation and presentation of oral and written reports.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
