Los Alamos National Laboratory Counterintelligence Analyst 1/2 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Come join the best and brightest minds in the world at one of the most innovative and creative multidisciplinary research institutions engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. In this role, you will assist in analyses to assess threats posed by intelligence collection activities of foreign powers or entities and international terrorist activities to local and national equities. Local analytic efforts will support the national CI goals and objectives pertaining to analyses and provide relevant threat information to CI investigations, awareness, and special technologies program (ISTP) operations. The Office of Couterintelligence at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) works in conjunction with the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence to safeguard our national security.

This position will be filled at either the Counterintelligence Analyst 1 or 2 level, depending on a combination of the skills and experiences of the selected candidate.

Counterintelligence Analyst 1 ($71,000-$112,700)

In this role you would contribute to our mission by:

  • Contributing to all-source strategic and tactical research, analysis, and writing on a specific project.

  • Assisting in analyzing information pertinent to investigations, inquiries, and assessments.

  • Providing basic due-diligence support of proposed international agreements and supply chain risk management.

  • Collaborating across OCI components, the LANL Field Intelligence Element, and other LANL personnel, as appropriate.

  • Collaborating with DOE-IN, other DOE CI Field Offices, and liaise with the FBI and other U.S. Intelligence Community members.

  • Contributing to Intelligence briefings/ presentations to laboratory personnel which may inform/impact DOE policy throughout the department.

Counterintelligence Analyst 2 ($77,300-$126,000)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will contribute to our mission by:

  • Producing finished assessments and raw reports.

  • Assisting with insider threat and awareness briefings.

  • Collecting, collating, and analyzing information that can be used by CI officers who brief and debrief Laboratory employees.

  • Providing due-diligence analytic support of proposed international agreements and supply chain risk management.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

To succeed in this role you will need to have the following qualifications:

U.S. Intelligence Community Experience

Rudimentary or demonstrated U.S. Intelligence Community experience and familiarity with intelligence community policy (e.g., EO 12333, PDD 61) and a limited or moderate understanding of U.S. intelligence and counterintelligence organizations and roles.

Analysis

A vocational ethic that demonstrates a commitment to excellence, continuous learning, and independent work. You will also need experience in conducting analytical projects, providing analytic services, and demonstrating experience with intelligence analysis methods. Knowledge of global political, economic, social, cultural, scientific, fiscal, and military conditions to evaluate information in light of the current geopolitical environment is also a prerequisite.

Briefings/Presentations

Limited experience in giving intelligence or other related briefings to audiences varying in size.

Interpersonal Skills

The ability to foster teamwork and the ability to interact professionally across LANL, DOE-IN, other DOE CI Field Offices, and with liaison partners. You must also be able to represent OCI at various working groups.

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

In addition to the minimum job requirements, the following qualifications would be beneficial:

DOE Counterintelligence

Familiarity with the DOE Counterintelligence/Counterterrorism Program and knowledge of foreign intelligence service methods and of non-traditional foreign intelligence collection.

Classification

DOE derivative classifier certification. Upon joining OCI, a successful candidate not already a derivative classifier must acquire certification as soon as feasible.

Language

Proficiency in a critical foreign language.

Clearance

An active Q clearance and SCI accesses.

Data

Data analytics or experience using data analysis tools.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q/SCI (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
