What You Will Do
Experience Information Technology (XIT) division is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Computing Systems Tec 5 for the XIT Classified Systems Services (XIT-CSS) group XIT-CSS consists of approximately 85 professionals, technicians, and students. XIT division is responsible for the desktop and server support for computing environments at the Laboratory. The division is organized around field support groups that are focused on supporting unclassified and classified programmatic and mission support needs, and a technical services group that provides the enterprise level configuration management services for these computing environments.
The successful candidate will perform a full spectrum of system administration duties, including but not limited to:
Installing, configuring and troubleshooting desktop, workstations, servers, and network issues in a heterogeneous environment
Assisting and developing skillset in system administration of Windows server 2016 and Windows server 2019 infrastructure, including troubleshooting, managing backup and recovery
Proactively managing systems and servers utilizing Active Directory
Supporting customers primarily in the classified environment
Testing and evaluating commercial and Laboratory developed software for quality control and proper operation
Enforcing strict password policies, data integrity, and file system security for the desktop environment.
Recommending hardware and software solutions, including new acquisitions, and upgrades
Researching emerging technologies, new industry trends, hardware and software tools and solutions
Communicating highly technical information to both technical and nontechnical personnel
Managing projects to fulfill customer technical needs
Practicing Information Architecture processes and standards
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Experience administering Microsoft Windows servers, VMware virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), point to point and diskless architectures such as Citrix based clients.
Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex operating system, hardware and application issues.
Experience with system patching and vulnerability remediation.
Experience developing / utilizing automated installation, configuration management tools.
Experience testing, repairing and evaluating Information Architecture (IA) standard software, including operating system and IA standard hardware.
Applicable advanced vendor certification (Microsoft, VMware, NetApp, CompTIA A+, CCNA)
Position requires a High School diploma or equivalency and 6 years directly related experience; or; an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Active DOE L or Q clearance, or equivalent, transferable clearance.
Active SCI Clearance.
Experience installing, configuring and managing servers (to include Active Directory).
Experience managing Linux / UNIX workstations.
Experience mentoring or giving presentations.
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
