Los Alamos National Laboratory Computing Systems Professional in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The CSP will becomes a team member for a highly visible Network Infrastructure and Engineering (NIE) group that manages enterprise services for Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This specific team is designated under Core Services (CS) and makes up the Collaboration team under that group. The technologies we manage have an expectation of being available 24/7 and as such, members of the team are expected to be efficient, available and hard-working to accomplish that expectation. The Microsoft Server OS Systems Administrator will primiarly work on Microsoft Server OS over the span of three different networks and with Office 365 Administration for the specific technology. The technologies include Office 365, Exchange email, Mobile Device Management using BlackBerry and Apple systems, Skype for Business, and SharePoint

In addition, this position is targeting a SharePoint administrator that shows solid server administration competency, has a background and familiarity with SharePoint, and can be trained is adaptable to supporting all the technologies the team supports.

Computer Systems Professional 2 ($75,400 - $122,900)

The CSP2 -SharePoint Administrator will provide tier 3 level support for the supporting infrastructure to run SharePoint. This support level places the Administrator between vendor support and managing customer requirements for support. It includes tasks such as server operating system maintenance and troubleshooting, running powershell scripts for automated tasks, managing a support ticket rotation, reviewing and understanding design and implementation of service related to SharePoint, SQL, and Nintex work-flows.

Computer Systems Professional 3 ($91,800 - $151,400)

In addition to the CSP2 requirements, the CSP3 SharePoint Administrator will develop powershell scripts to automate reoccurring tasks, have experience in designing and implementing future SharePoint upgrade paths, and participate in solutions for the future of the service such as a migration of specific data types to Office 365 based on the classification of the data.

  • Demonstrated competency in managing hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client server principles.

  • Demonstrated competency in Web-based technologies including Web page development and maintenance and Web-based tools and utilities.

  • Demonstrated competency in the use project management methodologies and technologies.

  • Demonstrated competency in the ability to read, write, and translate technical ideas into verbiage that can be delivered to a variety of audiences.

  • Demonstrated skill in working professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers to maintain a successful work environment and complete mission.

Additional Job Requirements for Computer Systems Professional 3:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • Experience designing and developing SharePoint infrastructure to maintain latest version including the use of monitoring tools, script development for automation, and the ability to troubleshoot difficult server malfunctions

  • Experience with SharePoint and OneDrive using Office 365

  • Experience with engaging vendor support for design, development, and troubleshooting with SharePoint and 3rd party vendors

Training/Certifications:

No certifications are required. Training in Office 365, SharePoint, and Nintex can be provided.

Education/Experience at lower level:

Computing Systems Professional 2 Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education/Experience at higher level:

Computing Systems Professional 3 Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of eight years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with public key infrastructure (PKI) and certificates.

  • Experience working with Windows PowerShell.

  • Understanding the use of load balancing and front end layers of abstraction for server security

  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 services and concepts (Azure AD, Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, Teams, etc.).

This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. The Telework Pilot is in effect from Oct. 1, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2021, but may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
