What You Will Do

XIT is responsible for the desktop and server support for computing environments at the Laboratory. The division is organized around field support groups that are focused on supporting unclassified and classified programmatic and mission support needs, and a technical services group that provides the enterprise level configuration management services for these computing environments. eXperience Information Technology (XIT) division is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Computing Systems Professional 2/3, Linux, Mac, and Windows System Administrator for the XIT Classified Systems Services (XIT-CSS) group.

This position will be filled at either the Computing Systems Professional 2 or Computing Systems Professional 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Computing Systems Professional 2 ($72,500 - $118,200)

The successful candidate will:

  • Support Linux/Window/Mac servers and desktop systems.

  • Install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot servers, workstations, and network issues in a heterogeneous environment.

  • Implement Linux/Window/Mac solutions to support customer workstation requirements.

  • Support server/client virtual environments.

  • Resolve customer support issues and fulfill requests through remote and onsite support.

  • Automate tasks using programming and scripting.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues including file shares and authentication.

  • Communicate technical information to both technical and nontechnical personnel.

  • Practice Information Architecture processes and standards.

Computing Systems Professional 3 ($87,800.00- $144,800)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Computing Systems Professional 3 will be required to:

  • Support a large network including specific experience in central configuration management for networks of computers in heterogeneous computing environment.

  • Manage diskless Linux/Window/Mac infrastructures, including troubleshooting, backup solutions and recovery.

  • Configure and manage Storage Area Networks (SAN) and backup solutions.

  • Manage technical projects to fulfill customer technical needs.

  • Manage authentication services such as LDAP.

  • Research emerging technologies, new industry trends, hardware and software tools and solutions.

  • Maintain UNIX services (Kerberos, NFS, SSH, Samba, etc.).

  • Proactively resolve vulnerabilities for Linux/Window/Mac operating systems.

  • Mentor and train fellow team members in Linux/Window/Mac system administration.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated wide-ranging knowledge and experience of Linux/Window/Mac system administration including server and desktop management.

  • Knowledge of hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client/server principles.

  • Experience deploying and managing diskless clients to include imaging and central management.

  • Experience solving complex software and hardware issues in a heterogeneous computing environment.

  • Experience scripting automated tasks (ex: Perl, Python, Java, C shell, PowerShell, VBScript, Jscript).

  • Knowledge of emerging computing technologies.

  • Extensive experience interacting with customers and peers in a professional and responsive manner.

  • Experience using a formal ticket management system.

Additional Job Requirements for Computing Systems Professional 3:

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Computing Systems Professional 3 level requires:

  • Experience providing advanced Linux/Window/Mac remote system administration.

  • Knowledge of risk management assessments.

  • Experience triaging and remediating Linux/Window/Mac desktop and server vulnerabilities.

  • Experience utilizing auto mount commands to mount a remote file system.

  • Experience implementing and maintaining configuration management tools for networks of computers in heterogeneous computing environment.

  • Demonstrated success in project management including specifying, budgeting, scheduling, testing and implementing server and workstation solutions.

  • Ability to program in a compiled or interpretive language.

  • Experience mentoring IT team members in Linux/Window/Mac system administration.

Desired Skills:

  • Advanced vendor certification (Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE), RHCSA, RHCE, VMware, VMware, NetApp).

  • Experience using or supporting technology such as VMware, or PCoIP in a classified computing environment.

  • Active DOE L or Q clearance, or equivalent, transferable clearance.

Education:

  • Computing Systems Professional 2 requirements: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Computing Systems Professional 3 requirements: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of eight years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, applicable advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable.
