What You Will Do eXperience Information Technology (XIT) is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Windows Server System Administrator with experience working with SCADA systems. XIT-ISS consists of approximately 115 professionals, technicians, contractors and students. The Central Team has an immediate and long-term need for one motivated system administrator with experience or knowledge with remote and field level Windows administration and experience or knowledge solving complex hardware and software issues with control systems. This team supports the Utilities and Institutional Facilities organization that has several control systems such as building automation systems (BAS), equipment surveillance systems (ESS), and waste and water systems located at various locations across the lab.

Computing Systems Professional 2

The successful candidate will perform the full spectrum of remote and field level Windows server administration, including but not limited to:

  • Supporting Windows servers and other systems on various unclassified networks

  • Installing, configuring and troubleshooting desktop and server systems

  • Resolving issues or fulfilling requests through remote desktop support

  • Troubleshooting issues through on-site field support

  • Setting-up and installing of hardware and software

  • Network support for issues associated with BAS and ESS field controllers. This includes contacting NIE, NOC for support, field verification of controller configuration, and checking CPAT scans

  • Monitor applications for device down time and respond to unresponsive devices

  • Troubleshooting and resolving network issues

  • Communicating technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel

  • Ensuring reliability, security, and data integrity for managed systems

  • Working with outside and internal auditors to ensure system compliance

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Experience in Windows Server Support and administration, including Active Directory and Group Policy experience

  • Experience working with SCADA systems, building automation, and control systems

  • Experience participating in security and compliance audits

  • Experience solving complex software and hardware issues in a heterogeneous computing environment

  • Experience troubleshooting problems using hands-on and remote tools

  • Experience implementing network security measures

  • Experience managing and working with vendors to ensure the security and compliance of diverse server and system platforms

  • Significant experience using a call tracking system including using it to resolve user issues

  • Extensive experience interacting with customers and peers in a professional and responsive manner and giving presentations

  • Experience mentoring and training team members

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well, broth written and verbally

  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning; project management including specifying, budgeting, scheduling, testing and implementing equipment replacements/solutions

Desired Skills:

  • Extensive experience working with SCADA systems, building automation, control systems

  • Experience with hardware and systems from Alerton, Automated Logic Controls, Trane, Johnson Controls, and Allen Bradley

  • Advanced vendor certification (Microsoft Windows, Networking, SCADA systems)

  • Experience or demonstrated knowledge with Network segmentation for security

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Mac desktop and/or Mac OS X server administration

  • Experience auditing systems for security and regulatory compliance


CSP-2: This position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, applicable advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable.
